Photographer’s Note

This beautiful city is named St. Petersburg, the third largest (by size) European city. It faces the Neva river at the Gulf of Finland, the Baltic region. Built by Peter the Great, in 1703, it was the capital of Russia until the Russian Revolution in 1917. The city was and continues to be a cultural hub with which names of humanists like Pushkin, Dostoyevsky, to name a few, are associated.

Hello Amin,

This is an absolutely first rate photo of St. Petersburg. It is almost monochromatic, except for the highlights provided in the setting sunset. Well done,

I see that you studied art in your university years, and your composition reveals the painterly eye. I am a scientist and artist bent on exploring the intersection of the two seemingly disparate worlds. Ultimately, they both try to describe nature, but take differnet tacks. (I am the author of a book called, 'Math and the Mona Lisa,' where Leonardo serves as a foil for the integration of art and science.) But your photo is excellent -- composition, exposure, sharpness,...

Hello Amin,
Very nice photo! I am shocked you do not have more points on this one. I love the pov, dof, clarity.....over all composition is superb....The only thing I might change would be the horizon line is just a bit tilted.

Hi,

I can only second previuos critiques - you've managed to express St.Petersburg soul in your shot. Those leaden clouds still haunt me since I left that city... even 20 years after.
Great. Composition and light are perfect.

But I also would second a complaint about the tilt. Here it is not necessary.

Anyway, well done.
