Photographer’s Note
In The Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, the geology is truly remarkable. For a NON-ROCK Climber like me, I SUDDENLY AM ONE in this Park. The rock formations are easy to climb...there are little mini -caves you can crawl into, and peek through... ledges to saunter up...I imagine if you bring your kids, they'll have the best time of their life!
This photo was taken along the WHITE DOMES TRAIL. It was the hottest day through which we ever survived.
(But that's the desert for you)

Hi Ursula, good framing with the rocks,I like that we can see the colours of the rocks inside the cave.
The landscape looks very bright and suggests a very hot day as you described.
Certainly looks an interesting place to visit.

I love the way you have used this natural rock frame in your photograph. The exposure is good, and I like how much detail is visible even in the shady areas. Cool photo, and I'm glad you survived the heat ;-)

Good POV, Ursula, and the square format suits this well. You did a good job with the flash to illuminate the foreground rock without over exposing it. Cheers . . . David

Hi Ursula,
A very nice framing, such a view peeping through the natural hole gets great added value, and details in both foreground and deep background are well rendered.
Have a nice day,

Hi Ursula,
You've found an excellent natural frame here. With it you focused one's attention gently on the fantastic landscape in the background. Well done!

The scene visible through the window is ever so slightly over-exposed, and I think setting the camera to under-expose by a stop or so or taking a spot meter reading from the highlights would have solved this.
What does work really well is your composition. You used this rock feature really well as a framing device for the scene beyond, and I like the colours and texture in the rock. It looks a great place to explore.
Good work Ursula.
Cheers,
Ben

Very strong image here Ursula. The ground in the foreground is a little over-exposed but there is an excellent range of colour/shade throughout the whole image. The saturated blue sky makes for a great backdrop too. Nice work, PHIL

Hi Ursula - the natural frame works very well, I like how you maintained details in the closeup rock textures without overexposing the landscape in the distance.

Hello Ursula,
Very nice natural window shot. You managed the light very well which is always difficult in this kind of situation because of the shadow in the foreground. The natural frame is a very good idea. Well done.
Have a nice evening.

Bonjour Ursula,
Christian

Hi Ursala
Valley of Fire, is one of my favourite places to visit when i come over from the UK, and this is a nice place you found making use of this natural window to use as a frame, and you managed to keep detail and textures on the window too. Nice composition, lovely colours.
