Photographer’s Note

These kids were dressed up smartly for the Divali celebrations, and were in a boisterous mood.
This shot wasn't posed by me in any way, the kids just lined up in front of me, demanding to be photographed. I like how the unseen mischief maker has provided his friend with a set of devil horns that seem to go well with his rather serious expression.

They are all great on they smiley and serious faces. I can see the “devil horns” is a thing of many cultures around the world. Nice picture with a good DOF and composition. Well done.

Hi Ben,
Excellent capture of the varied expressions. The key however is the face we don't get to see, only his fingers. Thats a nice one.

I like the various expressions that you've captured here Ben - the older ones trying to look serious while the younger ones look mischievous! I think that maybe a tighter crop might have been better here - cropped to the top of the kids head at the back and on his arm on the right to remove the background man.

Hi Ben!
Your pictures from India, has something special, something within, which I am not able to describe in a few words: the have freshness, natural expressions, common life, but above all, a light, which takes all the preminence on your image, and make them breath in a extraordinary way!
Like it a lot!
Have a great day, Ben!
Cheers

This is a fairly unique way to compose a group portrait; the natural inclination would be front-on. I think I would have preferred it if you had chosen a slightly wider DOF so they are all in focus, but I can see why you made this choice. I love the wide range of expressions you captured. The devil's horns add that extra touch of humour. Nice one

Thats a very nice photo of these children and the use of the dof is good too as not having them all in focus is much better to my mind.

Hi Ben,
Well composed and while there are several children in the scene, the frame is not at all crowded. The lighting is very fine and your scan did not result in loss of much quality. This was an excellent use of the portrait format and I am glad no more of the children in the foreground were cropped out. An effective and pleasing daily life scene, especially gratifying in that the children were not posed, as indicated by your note.

Hi Ben,
Beautifull composition of these lined kids, some smiling some not, some looking at the camera and some not. Nice colors and flue background. Best regards.
