During "Vasilica", a religious festival, Bitola's gypsies dress themselves in animal skins and masks. With metal bells and wooden swords, accompanied by the sounds of drums and "zurli", they perform a pagan ritual dance, battling against the evil spirits and dark forces that are beleived to rule in those "unbaptised" days.
