Palazzo Farnese
Headquarters of the French Embassy in Italy since 1874 and the Ecole Française de Rome since 1875, Palazzo Farnese is one of the most symbolic monuments of the Italian Renaissance.
Commissioned by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, elected Pope in 1534 with the name Paul III, the construction of the building was entrusted in 1513 to Sangallo il Giovane, a student of Bramante, who was followed by three other architects: Michelangelo from 1546 to 1549, Vignola from 1549 to 1573 and Giacamo della Porta from 1573 to 1589. In 1589, after 75 years of work, the construction of the building was finished. The most important artists of that era decorated the interior of the building, such as Daniele da Volterra, Francesco Salviati, Taddeo Zuccari, Annibale and Agostino Carracci and Domenichino. Among the treasures of Palazzo Farnese, there is the galleria dei Carracci, the Salone d’Ercole and the Sala dei Fasti Farnesiani. On the occasion Luce di Pietra, the Palazzo’s underground chambers will be exceptionally open to the public, a moving testimony of ancient Rome.

Ciao Giorgio!!
