Photographer’s Note
Field stubble in rising mist in Mount Lehman, a hilly farming community in the Fraser Valley. This area was not settled until the 1870's, when farmers from lower regions tired of their fields being inundated by the annual freshets of the Fraser River and sought higher ground. The farms here are largely devoted today to vegetable crops, blueberies, apple orchards, and dairying.
Although I will be critiquing for a few days, this will be my last post before leaving for northern France and the UK for several weeks.

You know what is nice with your photos John? I am sure (and when I say "sure", I really mean it!) that I will find beauty. Your photos are a cure against depressed mood. Eventhough it is gray and cloudy outside, just a look at a photo of John Cherrington, and bang! the smile comes back.
Excellence in management of the light here (without the use of the trick of the trendy HDR...!), the clouds are desirably fluffy and soft. A "feel good" cloud! ;) The golden field and the little patchs of red are so pleasing to the eye.
What is the expression in English that I find so funny? Ah yes! A chicken soup for the soul! ;)
Have the greatest time in France and UK dear John!

I cannot agree that you did right thing placing the corn in the foreground. I understand that it creates deep of the shot but in this same time it covers this lovely looking trees in the background. And really I would prefer to see these trees than ugly looking, old plants. But that just me.
Anyway, you have got here really beautiful light and colours. It looks more like a painting than a photo.

magnifique composition avec un ciel qui fait rêver. Tu as obtenu des contrastes forts et interessants grâce à une bonne technique photographique ou de PP, en tous cas les résultats sont surprenants.

Magnificent work John! The tone and colour of this is more like a painting than a photo. The corn stalks in the foreground provide not only a sense of depth or 3 dimensions, but they also complement the back ground well. The razoer sharpness of the corn stalks somehow makes the misty background softer, and vice versa. Excellent!

Olá John, I like a lot this 'curtain' of dried corn leaves at left, adding depth to this beautiful Autumnal painting. This foreground is at shadow which also makes a good contrast with the golden field under the sun. The sky is enhancing and some details as the white house and some red trees, stand out nicely in the background. Good shot.

This is fantastic John. The depth given by the grasses in the foreground is amazing and even more amazing when we note the f5. Can you remember where your focal point was to get the grass in focus without having a very blurred background?
The background mist and light is wonderful and the ploughed furrows lead us right through the image; topped off by a beautiful sky. Good work.

Hello John, j'aime much this kind of framing where nature and the plants are used, there are many lights within this idyllic framework or before vegetable plan rate/rhythm this landscape, the fog the field under a sky oppress seems to leave another time, I find that this photograph could have been taken in 1870 so much the table is realistic, the whole gives a poetic note to your image which is well balanced, the division in third gives a very good aspect has the composition, sincerely ........................Hello John, j'aime beaucoup ce genre de cadrage où la nature et les plantes sont utilisées, il y a beaucoup de lumières dans ce cadre idyllique ou l’avant plan végétal rythme ce paysage, la brume le champ sous un ciel oppressent semble sortir d’une autre époque, je trouve que cette photo aurai pu être prise en 1870 tellement le tableau est réaliste, le tout donne une note poétique à ton image qui est bien équilibrée, le partage en tiers donne un très bon aspect a la composition,

Excellent composition, the use of the dry grass in the foreground works really well. I would have been tempted to go for the typical shot with the sky covering the top third but this shot reminds me to stand back and think about the situation a bit more.

Hi John,
A nice misty composition where the foreground contributes to depth well amplified by the field perspective, the contrasting house is agood contrasting point in the far end, I think though what I prefer in this image is the shape of the clouds.

I'm not sure we really needed those plants in the foreground, but they can't get in the way of this superbly evocative landscape photograph.
It's the combination of mist and soft morning (it looks like morning anyway) light that makes this work; wonderfully atmospheric.

Hello John
I am so glad to have seen this beautiful piece of work. So many critiques have described it as being like a painting and I agree - but I have been considering - what makes it so? Perhaps the type of rural landscape with a good expanse of sky - always a popular subject for the painter, but even more than that, the suggestion of recession through muted colours [provided here by the mist] and the contrast between a broad and lively sky and precisely detailed foreground which the painter can exploit through brushwork.
A lovely, harmonious scene.
Thank you.
Best Wishes Maggie

Bonsoir John,
Le ciel est impressionnant et peu fréquent d'autant plus que sa symétrie est des plus inusitée.
L'éclairage matinal et la brume au loin qui tarde à se dissiper font de cette capture une prise exceptionnelle.
