Travels on the Silk Road: Khiva
This is my last picture of Kunya Ark, the Khan’s headquarters. The 19th century ayvan depicted here was used by the Khan family. The dry and often warm climate allows for such half-open verandahs. The woodwork lasts for centuries.
The slide was scanned, the scan sharpened, saturated by 12% shadows lightened. But I also want to declare the manipulation with the woman: in its position was originally a male tourist loaded with cameras! So I copy-pasted the Uzbek woman from another slide.

This is a very beautiful picture. The roof of the verandah looks very high. I also loved the detailed work on the wall, which is very typical of the era.
