Handcraft in Paraty
I still have a lot of pictures for my Brazilian travelogue. However my vacation last February was bisected in one week in Brazil and another one in the Dominican Republic. So, I had to divide my and your attention into two travelogues.
Paraty, as I already mentioned through several notes of my previous posts, is nowadays a small tourism centered village. Hotels, restaurants, souvenirs shops, museums are everywhere. I even found a nice arts atelier – the “Atelier Aracati”. The owner and artist is Marcelo and is specialty is to prepare coins from everywhere of this world into a jewel. Finally you can put it on your necklace.
It is real fun to see all the coins at the display. There were coins from Argentina, Brazil, EU, USA, Israel, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, Uruguay, etc at the display and at the same time the artist was at the front of his little shop working busy on the next piece. I got there early in the morning, almost noon ;-) and most of the tourists were still sleeping or having breakfast. So I got all the time to get some shots of the scene. I recommend anyone a visit at this atelier located at Rua Dona Geralda, 211.
I’m adding two complimentary WS to the main post. One with an overview and another one with a series from the original Argentinean coin until the end product.

Oi Peter,
So uma ideia. Vou tntar uma conversao, espero que goste...
Abracos,
Flavia

Olá Peter!
Foto bem legal desse moço das moedas.
O trabalho dele é bem interessante e a foto ficou com cores fantásticas.
Luciana.

Hi Peter. The vertical format works well to leave whatever is unimportant out of the frame. Your emphasis on the craftman is quite good. He seem immersed in his work. which I assume he does very well after years of practice. Interesting street scene caught with good colours and definition. Thanks Peter.

Hi Peter,
The most essentiel part is the movement in his hand, else it would look like a statue. Your framing and the combination between colours is very well displayed, good work.

Hallo Peter,
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

show a foto - composição, luz - show o todo que você mostrou.
Proposital o homem trabalhando hoje?

Hi Peter,
The machine and direction of the movement make me think of a cork setting machine, but it's clear seeing the environment it's about coin forging... erh, no I mean adding value to coins ;-) A nice close framing with just the right amount of blur to be fine.
Have a nice day, JY

Hallo Peter
this is extra excellent portrait
the colors a bit saturated - maybe slightly too red on the face, but I like the angle and you managed to capture the action nicely.
and I enjoy also the extra pics in the WS

This is a very good and interesting presentation about the artisan. All 3 images combine well to give us the information. Looking at the sequence of coin > necklace medalion it is a very talented process.
The motion blur on this image is perfect for giving us an impression of his work. Very well done.

Hello Peter -
This image has action written all over it with the craftsman hands just a blur. I am really hard pressed to discern what he is doing and without you note this image would have lost some of it's impact. I really like your 5 coin WS showing us the the intricate steps the craftsman takes to produce his product. I was just assuming that he took the coins and makes some form of necklace or charm bracelet but, no, he crafts a product that is very interesting. The main image is exceptionally well crafted and presented. Bravo, well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Top ten.

I have read that at f/22 refraction can be a problem but you seem to have disproved this with a superb people shot, the blurr of the hands just adds to the feeling of a living being .. nice work indeed Peter

Bela foto.

Hello Peter,
It took me some time to realize that he was not a buddhist priest, orange and a bald head probably oriented my brains to the east. Nice job he invented, and he looks so serious about it. Paraty must be very interesting and you found here some good subject in order to give us a better idea.
Keep well - Izzet

Hi Peter,
Beautiful how everything is in sharp focus, excpet the hands. Either his hands were moving real fast or he was real still. Great perspective.

Hi Peter,
I like action shots and I like photos of people at work so you really captivated me on this one. It is a great action shot; framing, detail and color are spot-on. I especially like the way you captured his flying hand. The WSs add interesting detail. HLJ, pat
