Photographer’s Note

This is a tribute to all Portuguese fellows here in TE. Even though I took this photograph in Alfama (one of the oldest quarters in Lisbon), I think it could be seen (or imagined) everywhere in the world where there are Portuguese immigrant communities.

Some signs are just too obvious, and I guess we’ll always carry with us the smell of basil plants and grilled sardines, wherever we go.

Quite an amusing observation, good choice of central framing, letting the wall work as frame, interesting lines provided by the arrangement of wires.

Tens razão. Aproxima-se novamente essa época do ano em que os manjericos e as sardinhas assadas estão na mente de toda a gente. Até na minha que vivo tão longe!
Fot simples mas, com aquelas cores da bandeira, sobressai entre todas as outras na página geral do TE. Aqui, até os cabos eléctricos e os fios do estendal ajudam à composição. Sem falar da concentração da velhota que devia estar a ver de onde é que estava a vir o cheiro das ditas sardinhas!!! Muito bonita.

Ha,ha,ha, até pensei que fosse uma foto de alguém do último encontro Português em Alfama - se calhar até se podia acrescentar ao tema, uma vez que há lá uma parecida... ;-)
Com esta arquitectura, só podia ser em Portugal. Gosto do espaço todo que deste à volta desta composição central, que acaba por ser muito original. O olhar dela lá para o canto da imagem, também está porreiro...e os fios...e a bandeira fora do centro...afinal a composição não é nada central :)

Very nice tribute!

It has already been said here that the compo is original in the use of lines and wall space... it really does work quite well.

Oh, and... I love her dress with the red dots. :-)

besides the red dots on her dress which are a definite plus, the bit darkened paint on the wall, the endless world of cables and wires (which i well know, since we also have a lot all over) - i really love the look on her face! good moment and well flavored note :)

Eu sou português. Estou inscrito no TE. Logo sou um "Portuguese fellow here in TE". Obrigado pela dedicatória então. :) Esta foto tem de ser criticada em português, de tão lusitana que é. Adoro a composição central. Funciona tão bem aqui. Que grande olho e sentido estético tu tens. Aquela linha de fios negros ali sobre o terço superior está excelente! Mas também o estão a expressão da senhora, a bandeira desenrolada e os reflexos na janela. Muito gira!

Olá,
Suponho que o manjerico é imaginário, ou então estou com os meus dotes de observação diminuídos. Mas mesmo assim concordo que o título está muito bem escolhido e que a foto transpira Portugal por todos os poros e não só por causa da bandeira.
Além da compo, muito conseguida, gosto do toque de humor da senhora quase não caber na sua janelinha para o Mundo.

Nice simple image, where the colours seem to do all the work here with the nice simple white background and the red standing out against it. Not completely sure on the top part of the image with the balcony, but still a good one.

A rare Portuguese shot from you, Gal, simple or rather simplified and selective for maximum effect. I have been to Lisboa twice over 20 years and I love it - I have walked the old streets of Alfama and eaten those damn sardines, and they are delicous, so I can feel a little bit of what you're alluding to here.
