Africa in Tijuana Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is one of the most traditionals pictures you can take in Tijuana, however I never do it until the last week I took a few of this because the owner of this beautiful animal was angry with me. I don't know if you know this, but this is not a zebra, is a donkey, they paint this rays in they bodies. The urban leyend say, the owners of this donkeys start to paint the donkeys because in the begining of the 1900's to took picture of the tourist in this pedestal with this donkeys, the pictures were in B&W and the donkey does not shows so much in the pictures, so to make more notorious adding the rays, so this keep this tradition until this day, this help to be more attractive to he tourist and increase it the pictures and of course the money.

Hola Elías.
Me parece una foto muy divertida, aunque no está bien que se les haga ese tipo de putaditas a los animales, bien es verdad que en otros sitios se les hacen cosas peores. Supongo que depende de las distintas culturas y del sentimiento personal que cada uno tenga hacia los animales. Yo creo que el buro es un animal hecho para tirar de un carro o de un arado o cosas así, pero decorarlo como una cebra me parece excesivo. Bueno, La foto está muy divertida, y además supongo que es muy representativa de ese país, con esos sombreros tran típicos y demás. Es un buen reclamo turístico. Solo espero que no le den tequila al burro para merendar jeje... Un saludo desde España (aquí también hay muchos burros todavía).

Hola Elias, beautiful colorful atmosphere and most interesting note of a costume that I didn't know about. Poor donkey! Very well composed exotic image - even the left background is full with painting scenes from the Maya times, I believe. Excellent post.

What have they done to the poor Paco? Maybe that's why he looks so sad, that's a really bad thing to do to the poor animal.

Hola Elías. Fotografía muy turística, divertida llena de color, muy representativa con esos sombreros mejicanos y mantas de colores.
A el burro-cebra parece que no le molesta mucho su disfraz, estará acostumbrado el pobre Paco.

Que cenário colorido e quantos elementos inclusos nesta composição.
O que me chama a atenção é o fato do animal ter listas em B&P e carregar uma mantilha com listas bem coloridas...é o máximo esse contraste...é o colorido do México...

Bueno yo pense que el papa del burro talves viajo a Africa y tuvo algo que ver una zebra. Que bueno que la nota explica porque el burro parece zebra ;-) Me gusta la escena, es muy divertida y colorida. Pienso que Tijuana es una ciudad con mucho colorido pues es muy popular. Nunce he viajado por esos parajes pero pienso que algun dia deberia hacerlo. Buen trabajo Elias :-)

Hola Elias,
Vi que esto en Avenida Revolución y yo pensé que es kitsch puro. Quizás solamente los turistas yanquis presentanse allí para tomar las fotos de sí mismos.
Pero es parte de la ciudad, por eso tu foto es un documento de esa realidad.
