Photographer’s Note
Chinese New Year, 2004. Fireworks welcoming in the 'Year of the Monkey', in Jinbo, which is south of Shanghai & east of Hangzhou. Jinbo has a population of 250,000 & was formerly known as Ningbo, which was one of the 5 treaty ports opened up after the Opium Wars. Nearby Shanghai quickly eclipsed Ningbo as a major trading port, & Jinbo now languishes as a quiet backwater. More info here:

The bridge in the foreground is a good graphic element to this shot. Nice picture. Very festive with those fireworks.

Great colorful shot of the fireworks, Chris, with the "fire flower" well captured rising between the skyscrapers. The exposure is well mastered, and the bridge in the foreground as well as the other architecture elements make an appealingly graphical total. Well done, and like Jaap wrote, I also found it's not that easy to get a good photo of fireworks - last New Year's it took me 50 attempts to get one or two reasonable results.

I think this is great Chris. I love the effect created by viewing the scene through the bridge and the sparkly fireworks make the shot more dynamic and exciting. Good exposure and timing.

Gorgeous shot! Good timing. The verticals of the building and fireworks create nice tension with the diagonals of the bridge. Just a little grainy on my screen.

Dramatic pattern here Chris. And the lights and smokes from the fireworks just give that impact and content.Something like backlighting on a foggy/misty morning kind of effect. By the way, thank you for your comment. Sadly it never snow anywhere in Sabah. Guess I would never see snowcapped Mt Kinabalu ever.
