Photographer’s Note
Another time when I just cleared off and went to India for a walkabout for six weeks. One place I went to was Manali and the mountains nearby. Climbed one or two easier ones and had a chance to admire the scenery then went to the Thar desert for a change.
Oh and I think the plantb was Edelweiss

Even with film (especially slide film) it's always hard to expose correctly for these kinds of shots with such a massive range in brightness levels. The sky and mountains in the background are looking good, but the rocks and plants in the foreground are a bit over-exposed. If you'd reduced the exposure the foreground would have looked a lot better, but then again the dark shadow on the mountains would have been even more blocked out. A tricky one.
If it's any consolation, it would have been a lot worse with digital! This is the kind of shot that would be best taken on colour negative film, with it's wider exposure latitude compared to slide film.
It looks a stunning place, and your shot is well composed - there's good depth with the distinct layers running through the image from front to back.
Cheers,
Ben

Hello Simon,
India is such a beautiful country with a huge range of landscape, cityscape, people...So many photo opportunities.
Like Ben said, the contrasts in the foreground are not as good as one could expect. But in my opinion, the exposure could not be better. You manage the light like a master, it's just that some work would have been done, especially on the flowers in the foreground. If you could just bring out some contrast there, no one would complain...
I like the color of the water, it looks so white!
Superb landscape!

Hi Simon. Wonderful landscape sight and really good depth in your photo. Composition goes from very close to very far but it is very well done and I like the difference in contrast and brightness. Maybe a fraction more darkness in the foreground but I remember that you experienced some difficulties with your screen. But fine work indeed. Greetings Jens :-)

Simon,
your composition is superb! The low point you chose for taking this image was a very good one. I have to say that the clarity as well as the depth of the field are excellent! The movement of the water is amazing.
Thank you for sharing.
Have a nice weekend,
Athanasios.
