Photographer’s Note
Taken at a tulip farm in Agassiz, British Columbia which is located at the eastern end of the Fraser Valley about 80 miles (120km) east of Vancouver. For this shot I used a graduated gray filter to darken the background mountain and trees which made the foreground tulips really pop. This was taken in mid afternoon.

Hi Phil,
I was just giving a critique for one of your other shots..and then I saw this one..WOW! You have some talent! The use of the Gray filter has worked wonders here. MINDBLOWING. Can you explain to me how it is used..what it does etc.. in a little more detail.
Thanks and congrats...

This is very impressive work! When I look at the photo I can hardly believe that it was taken in mid afternoon. Great idea to use the filter to darken the background and really make the flowers stand out. The colour just explodes out of the frame. Well done!

HI Phil,
A high impact shot, due primarily to the superb contrast between the idyllic field of tulips in the foreground and the rich background. Here what is very interesting is how the grad filter produced a different effect than a polarizer. There is a rather painterly look to the scene as a result. This shot goes straight to my favourites. Cheers.

With 8 previous comments and critiques, pretty much left me with nothing much to say. Except maybe, asking you how did you do it Phil? The tulips have this unnatural interesting "painting" effect on it.

Hi Phil,
The colours of the tulips are really perfect. And the field, trees and the red flowers had come together and so it's nice composition.. Nice work! Thanks..

Hi Phil,
Amazing shot with the three separate contrasting layers. Good idea with the darker backround.

Great work Phil. I must get this gradual grey a sit does give one greater latitude to play around with the light conditions. Brilliant colours which are made even more stunning because of the darker sky.Regards. Klaudio.

Congrats on this one Phil! I haven't had the pleasure of shooting a field of tulips yet but this sure is inspirational. Nice usage of the P121, I have that one myself, it really enhanced the overall exposure of the scene.
Well done!

Hi Phi,
These georgeous spring flowers really stand out against the dark background as they contrast wonderfully with the various other clear colors seen in this scene. Lovely details and sharpness to this beautiful spring landscape.
Regards, Tom
