Photographer’s Note

Ragusa Ibla was founded by the Sicels 3000 years ago and has seen Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans and Spanish.

The city comprises a picturesque arrangement of houses, narrow roads and staircases that rise along the hillside with the same name.

This photo was taken from Via del Mercato just before it opens up into Piazza della Repubblica. I liked the different styles of architecture and the tones of the facades of the buildings - to the immediate right, up on the left and above on the hill.

If you look up on the hill at the top of the picture, you will see Chiesa Santa Maria delle Scale - a subject of, and vantage point for other pictures I have posted of Ragusa Ibla...
