~ Shanghai Blue 1920 ~
I try to post my first indoor night shot from an Oriental-Betawinese Jazzy resto in Jakarta, maybe the picture a little bit noisy with iso 400, but i like to share this interesting athmosphere with the lamp's formation and especially to tell the Shanghai Blue's story.
Located :
Shanghai Blue 1920 is an unique oriental-betawinese jazzy restaurant, situated at Kebon Sirih street near Jaksa street, a famous foreign tourist street at central Jakarta.
The Story :
When Nko Mo San sailed from Shanghai to Batavia (now Jakarta) at the end of 19th Century, He brought the dream of a better life, with his son, Chan Mao Sang and his betawinese wife Siti Zaenab. He opened a humble warong (outdoor semirustic eatery) called Shanghai Tea House.
The economic and political changes in the area over years forced the once popular warong to close down, however many decades later came warong Shanghai Blue 1920 at hotel Tugu Malang - East Java, where many of the remains of the original warong were use as integral part of decor. Now the Tugu Hotels Group has brought the spirit of Shanghai Tea House back to the Jakarta city with Warong Shanghai Blue 1920.
Shanghai blue walls are anything but blue, they are part orange, red and golden brown-reminiscent of the walls of restaurants in Shanghai in the 1920s when the city was the biggest financial centre in East Asia, art deco, with swept across the globe in the 1920s and 1930s dominated the interior, the wooden chairs are painted in many colours and feature flower carvings.
Chan Mao Sang and Siti Zaenab in Sounda Kelapa may no longer be there, however Warong Shanghai Blue has fully come back to life, where delicious home cooking with oriental and betawinese taste, great times an life will be celebrated to the fullest.

Hi Daniel! I like very much your new picture. Dark and beautiful colors. Pattern of lamps that follow an interesting diagonal. It seems to direct us to the painting. From there we can invent a story about this place, a man and a woman meeting there. Some mysterious adventure occurring... Very well done!!!

Hi Daniel,
I do like the row of red lights over the bogie/bacall photo. You might look at the shot with the white lights cropped out. It's tall and skinny but much cleaner. Very interesting note.

Daniel, a very distinctive and moody scene with the red lampions leading to the mysterios interaction of the couple in the painting. The round and ohter rhomboid formed lamps are a godd contrast and gives a good balance to the image as an overall.

An interesting and very artistic shot Daniel. Different and original. Almost an abstract with all the different light colors and shades. Good composition, especially including the painting in the background, and nice colors also.
Great work.

Hello Daniel
The mood is lovely & the diagonal of the red lights creates it. Good play of shapes of the lamp shades. The noise is a small issue, but it can be removed thru the free software NeatImage. Good work!

There is some noise in the photo but that only enhances the mood. You should not remove that, it has together with the light the right atmosphere for these kind of pictures, i like that a lot.
The red lights follow a nice path to the painting, nice photo Daniel, great mood.

Hello Daniel, nice to see your shots again!
This is a very good first attempt of an indoor shot with few lights. It is very well composed and perfectly framed, with also a very good sense of depth, thanks to the repetitive lanterns leading directly to the picture in the bg.
Thanks also for the very interesting note, my friend! Stay well and best wishes.

Hopefully this message will find you out of harms' way (Sept. 12/2007 - just read the news about the tsunami hitting Indonesia).
What I like about this image is the "Casablanca" feel that you have managed to capture. Almost expecting Humphrey Bogart to come out of nowhere.
Best of luck,
Enrique

Hi Daniel,
I like the way you lined up your shot using the red ceiling lamps to lead ones focus towards the painting ... innovative approach. You've done well with low lighting considering no flash was used ... actually better this way as it captured the natural atmosphere. Well composed ... excellent work! tfs

Hi Daniel,
The compo is very well done, graphic and colour wise. I agree that it's a pity that is a bit noisy, but that doesn't stop it from being very moody.

the formation and the shapes of lamps you've caught are so nice. the diagonal of those lamps make it as a guiding line to the painting. it's a pleasant warm and creative picture of indoor shot. well, the noisy doesn't bother me so much, it's hard to take picture with minimum lighting.
regards,
yopie
