Rome fountain of acqua Paola (gianicolo)

The majestic show-fountain of acqua Paola known as the “fontanone del Gianicolo” was created for pope Paolo V Borghese (1605-1621) by Giovanni Fontana and Flaminio Ponzio and completed by Carlo Fontana with the enormous white marble basin. The monumental fountain exhibits three wide niches, with two minor ones alongside, from which water from Lake Bracciano flow. Part of the large inscription over the niches is inexact. It says that the pipes of the Alseitana were restored, when in reality they were from that of Triana. The papal coat of arms and the figures beside it are the careful work of Ippolito Buzio. It was only in 1690 that Pope Alessandro VIII Ottoboni (1689-91), following the designs by Carlo Fontana, replaced the five shells at the base of the hydrants with a magnificent, large basin. He opened the space facing the botanical gardens behind with its central arch, thereby constructing the square from which one can admire the wonderful panorama of the capital city.

La maestosa fontana-mostra dell'acqua Paola, nota anche come "fontanone del Gianicolo", fu voluta da papa Paolo V Borghese (1605-1621), progettata da Giovanni Fontana e Flaminio Ponzio e completata da Carlo Fontana con l'enorme bacino in marmo bianco. La monumentale fontana mostra tre ampie nicchie (affiancate da due nicchie minori) da ognuna della quali sgorga molta acqua proveniente dal lago di Bracciano. Nella grande iscrizione posta al di sopra delle nicchie vi è un'inesattezza: è detto che vennero restaurati i condotti della fonte alsietina, invece di quella Traiana. Lo stemma pontificio come le figure che lo affiancano è accurata opera di Ippolito Buzio; fu solo nel 1690 che papa Alessandro VIII Ottoboni (1689-91) su progetto di Carlo Fontana fece sostituire le cinque conche poste alla base delle bocche d'acqua con il grande magnifico bacino, aprire verso il retrostante orto botanico il vano dell'arcata centrale e costruire il piazzale da cui si ammira un mirabile panorama sulla capitale.

No doubts it's a very interesting sight and you wanted us to be able to read the inscription. That's why you've shot it from the front. It's nice but you've had more artistic shots.
Anyway, it's a nice shot from a technical point of view maybe.

Questa tua "missione" di documentare torri, fontane ed architetture romane dev'essere frutto di una passione inestinguibile. Non credo riuscirei a fare cosa analoga che so, a Venezia o Padova.
La foto è ampia e di grande respiro, si coglie la pulizia e la bellezza di questa architettura.

What a wonderful piece of antiquity! You have chosen a great POV to show its importance! The detail is very fine, and the highlights and shadows caused by the sun create interest!

I like how the pale colour of the fountain contrasts with the deep blue of the sky!
