Photographer’s Note
How can you travel to Ireland and not come back without any sheep shots? Sheep grazing idyllic countrysides are a ubiquitous scene in Erie.
On the heels of my previous post which was a garish pink almost blasphemous rendition of the Rock of Cashel, I offer up this more traditional memory of Ireland.
As you drive the countryside, you think you'll have ample opportunity to find the perfect sheep landscape with so many to pick from. But fate seems to conspire against you, as the best scenes seem to occur just off the road in places you can't stop. Perhaps there is no shoulder to park on the narrow winding mountain road or when you do find an accessible scene it's now raining.
So with my trip nearing its end and no sheep shots in my pocket yet, I was on a mission to get some. I came upon this scene on my way into Westport in County Mayo. It was early evening at this point with overcast skies and a slight mist. While it's a very simple scene, it took a while for the sheep to get used to my presence and seperate enough from each other so I capture them individually.
No offense to the vegetarians out there, but I put this one in the Food category too. I couldn't help but think of the great lamb dishes these fine specimens would make some day :)
Regards,
Doug

hello Douglas
you're right , coming back from Ireland without a sheep (shot) and some sample of that living green(s) one can find in this friendly country would be a shame ! but you brought us back a little of the Irish identity ...
well done

The peaceful atmosphere is very nice. I think the sheep create a nice contrast against the green surroundings. Excellent view and sharpness. Ireland seem a paradise for photography. Thanks Doug.

Hi Douglas, as you say a very simple subject but lovely. The sheeps are just at the right place to get a great composition.

Food category? That was naughty! Try shouting "Mint sauce!" and you'll get a stampede. Are sheep rare in the US? This shot could also be anywhere in the UK and on the moors near where I live they roam free so you have to drive carefully.
The vertical format works well to frame this small group. The ones at the front look about ready for market and the one in the middle still bears the marks of recent shearing. Good idea to exclude the sky too. True "Emerald Isle" colours.

Hi Douglas!
I like it, the format, the composition with these two colour sheep in the foreground, they are different from ours here.Very well framed and with good colours.

I don't care. It's really beautiful!

Hello Douglas
Quite a bucolic scenery is to see those busy sheeps in front and the others behind the stables! Sight of those two flocks depicts much depth.
The overcast skies draw much softness to this romantic tableau.
Best regards.

Those sheep are perfectly arranged in the composition :) All that green grass leaves us with no doubt this photo is from Ireland. Beautiful capture.

Doug,
lovely to se how patient sheeps can be. I see that you arranged that composition placing each of these delicious lamb ribs in tright place of your shot and than ran back to he camera to get it. ;-)

Hi Douglas,
What a lovely image! It seems 3D. As we saw these beautiful animals through the window. Good framing.
Excellent colours and depth.

Hi Doug,
These wollies are seen in excellent detail and fine clear colors. Your POV that brings us up the steep hillside gives this photo wonderful depth. All that is missing is the border collie there to change you shutter speed.

Hi Douglas,
Good idea to have captured it in a vertical format! I like the kind of pattern the sheeps do - looking (eating) right and left.
Thank you!
Tony
