Photographer’s Note
In Alaska's Glacier Bay, the size of Nature's creations dwarfs that of man. In this shot, taken from the upper deck of my 56,000 ton, 720' long cruise ship, we see the 70-passenger expedition ship 'Sea Lion', registered in Seattle, several hundred metres from the face of Margerie Glacier. Even as I concentrated on getting this man-made object to give some scale to the massive cliffs, giant pieces of ice calved from the glacier and crashed into the sea. My ship, the MS Statendam, was obliged to stay at a respectable distance: I was so thankful I had invested in the Nikon 70-300VR lens before departure. The telescopic effect is both deceiving and impressive - I was a good 500 metres from the 'Sea Lion'!
I will post another shot from this magic place, but neither will really do justice to the grandeur - it is simply something you should all see for yourselves.

The glacier looks so impressive here. And does indeed make the usually large ship in front of it miniscule.
I love the colours of the glacier, and you've done well to get such a clear shot from so far.
Looking forward to your next post of this locale.

Hi Jeff,
This is a fantastic scenic waterscape, and the massive size of the glacier is certainly put into scale by your inclusion of the ship. The almost monochromatic colouring is impressive and overall a great result. I probably would have placed the ship on the left of the frame, so that it is moving into the open space, but hey, this is still a great image. Well done.Cheers Grant

An excellent shot of the glacier with the ship giving us a good reference for the scale.I cannot imagine how it must feel to be actually there!
Thanks for this shot.
The colour and textures are amazing.
TFS, regards Jean.
