Le 18 juin 1815, Napoléon est défait à Waterloo, en Belgique, par les troupes britanniques et prussiennes.
Cette défaite entraînera la chute de l'empereur.

La fin de bataille contée par Victor Hugo a fait l'objet du célèbre vers : "Waterloo ! Waterloo ! Waterloo ! Morne plaine !" (L'expiation, Les Châtiments)

L'image représente la gare de Londres Waterloo, qui est une plaine habituellement beaucoup moins morne :o)

Bonjour,
Des belles courbes, une atmosphère futuriste et epurée, avec ce liseret jaune en rappel partout sur le gris urbain. Tu as vraiment soigné le design et c'est très réussi.

Hello JB,

Une très belle perspective dans cet environnement urbain !
Les lignes formées par ce dôme de verre forcent l'oeil vers le fond de l'image et c'est bien joué !
Les lignes jaunes des trains à droite et à gauche sont bien vue également !
Bravo !

Hi JB,
Great lines of perspective. Very spacious feeling rarely seen on any railway station. Well chosen viewpoint. Overall appearance is rather grainy to my taste, but I guess it was a deliberate PP decision.
(You may want to fix the location data. London is not in Aberdeen.)

Bonjour JB, interesting note remembering an important moment of the history that happened in this place. I like very much your presentation and the resulted atmosphere. Excellent composition with strong leading lines. Almost seems like e set for a movie and not a real station. Very good work.

Salut JB,
Le PP, meme si je le trouve un peu trop pousse dans les hautes lumieres qui m'agressent l'oeil, est bien vu et correspond tout a fait a la sophistication de l'eurostar en lui ajoutant un univers de science fiction plutot sterile, pour le reste la perspective en courbe est tres chouette et le signe de droite bien positionne, la camera qui te surveille aussi, j'espere que tu ne t'es pas fait embarquer comme dangereux terroriste pour avoir pris cette photo !

Dull plain?! What do you mean? A train station is never dull nor is your photo. It's very good if I may say so. I like your pp very much, the way you striped the colors and emphasized those electric blues and yellows. The curved compo is great and the contrast in the ceiling was well used here. I am glad to see trains in both sides. A great one for my railway theme.

Hi JB,
Nice colour toning with that cold blue and those yellow stripes, i like that effect.
The bending on the roof and the rails creates a huge depth. Thanks to the sign in English we know it's taken in London, small but very nice detail...perfect.

I like your composition here JB - good use of the sweeping curves of the architecture - but I'm not so keen on the heavy PP. It looks more like a sketch than a photograph.
It would also have worked better with a train on the track nearest the platform on the left, but never mind.
Yes, I'd have preferred it without the crazy PP, but at the end of the day it's down to personal taste. Each to their own!

The curved lines are what really make this picture special. They lead the eye to the EXIT announced on the right hand side. The train on the right blends so well with the ceiling that almost gets lost in the frame. Very well done.

Hello JB -

This image seems to be well within your portfolio of different impressions of everyday scenes. I am not sure I like the chunky feel or over sharpened look of this image but I do like the graphism of the scene. The sweeping lines of the skylight and roof and the mirrored lines of the platform and RR tracks below really over shadow my perceived limitations of the image. This is a well conceived and executed image. I am wondering what the straight documentary image looked like and how it would have been perceived. Well done!

puisque tu connais si bien la Belgique ne va pas seulement voir ses mornes plaines mais passe donc par Liège et sa très future gare tgv Ultra moderne
et tu pourras apercevoir nos vertes collines des Ardennes toutes proches.
Elle n'a pas cette très belle courbe comme dans ton excellent cliché mais elle vaudra le détour.
Une question sais tu que Waterloo est la ville la plus belge qu'il puisse être ? et ça c'est une vraie histoire belge amitiés Henri

Quelle perspective ! Fantastique, vraiment, comme POV... Bien sûr, pas grand chose à voir avec le site de Waterloo, près duquel j'ai fait mes études chez des nonnettes (à Argenteuil), mais ça c'est un détail ;-))

Hello JB,
Train stations and train are such a wonderful subject and this one is no exception.
On this one I think the use of the wide angle was perfect for the success of it as it gives us a feeling of wideness specially because you caught well the lines of the ceiling and the lines on the ground both conveying to one point somewhere in the infinity.
This space on foreground just enhances more this feeling so IMO it's not an empty space, rather on the opposite side it helps to the mood of the photo.
Finally the tones you've adopted for this one with this futuristic look fit like a glove to this composition.
