Photographer’s Note

What's really special in Lavra is that both tourists and pilgrims feel comfortable there. This is a monk going to service in the morning.

The arches just make the place look better form that point. And you still can see the Cathedral Of The Dormition in the background.

They founded the Cathedral in 1073. It was ready for cult service in 1089. Destroyed in 1941 (well, there was WW2 that time). Reconstructed in the end of the 90s in the 20th century.

Thanks by to have valued positively one of my photos. This has been motive so that visited your gallery of photos and i have liked a lot, there are works very achieved as this of this cathedral. The point of view chosen with the semi arch that frames part of the cathedral, thus cmo the narrow street and of stone remains very bién, besides the priest gives life to the sequence.

I like the curved architectural details, they seem to imprison the monk bellow. THe photo is very nicely composed, I find it a bit overexposed though.

Hello Iaroslav,

Your photograph has an excellent structure, with the diagonals created by the arch and the roadway curving away and converging into the distance. In short, the composition and perspective are excellent. The colors and resolution are most compelling. Finally, timing the photograph with the monk walking up the street creates both a human interest aspect, and the mystique of a priest, and not just a tourist. I like this photo very much.

Hi Iaroslav,
The pov allowed you a very effective compo and the presence of the black monk enhances the religious mood of the image. The only thing I regret is that the dof doesn't cover the fg, something that maybe you could have achieved by using a slower speed.

Lovely shot combining the old and modern architecture and adding a human and religious factor to it .IS it an orthodox church or does it belong to a smaller branch of christianity?,I ask this because of the notes explaining about the cult ,and I really apreciate if you can explain about the monks because I always thought you have priests in churches ,I have a limited knowledge in this area and sure like to increase it
