Photographer’s Note

This picture was taken during a trek in Nepal, up to the Everest Base Camp. Mount Nupse, an "almost 8000 meters" summit close to Mt. Everest is going to disappear in the evening clouds. The place from which I took the picture is called Lobuche, and it is the last place to sleep on the road to Everest B.C., at 4900 meters. It is a cold and dirty group of barracks, where porters and sherpas set the tents and the camp for the night (it is close to the place where italian CNR has build a glass pyramid for scientific studies).
Then, after an almost no-sleep night, trekkers start walking early in the morning (6 am) and in about 3 hours they can reach Everest B.C. or, more frequently, the summit of a sort of hill, called Kala Pattar, at 5550 meters, from which a fantastic view of Everest and nearby mountains can be seen (From Everest B.C. the summit of Everest is not visible, and it is a place for climbers rather than for trekkers).

Trekking in Nepal Himalayas is a fantastic experience, and much less demanding, in terms of organization, difficulty and strenght, than it could be naively thought. I warmly suggest it to any mountain lover.

The picture is a a scan from an old Kodak Ektachrome 100, which I used at that time, and it was taken with a Pentax ME.
