[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Another view of this place that I already showed in an earlier other post. As far as I remember, that other photo was shot on the top of this tower, which actually constitutes the major part of the building.

Much of the rest of the note is copied form the other post.

The palace, known as Palácio (or Quinta) da Regaleira, was built in the late 19th century, but there were already older constructions on the site at that time. His owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, was one of those 19th century figures who liked to spend much of their large wealth in various things like Science and Art in general, Architecture in particular and also in esoteric things like Alchemy, Masonry, Templar Knights and Rosicrucianism. He inherited a huge family fortune that he expanded in Brazil, where he was born, selling coffee and precious stones (he was known in the press of the time as "Monteiro of the Millions"). He hired the Italian architect Luigi Manini to build this palace, which is an intricated mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Manueline (a kind of Portuguese late Gothic) styles.

Although this is a fact disputed by some researchers, the palace and its gardens are usually described as being full of Masonic symbols. I haven't enough knowledge to discuss such things, but the abundance of esoteric signs is evident even to the less attentive visitor.

It is located on a hill near the centre of the charming historic town of Sintra, which is classified by Unesco as World Heritage, only a few Kms West of Lisboa. From its windows and balconies one has fabulous views over the neighbouring densely forested hills of Serra de Sintra, which features a Moorish castle just beside a Romantic palace and also the Atlantic coast that lies just a few Kms to the West, behind the building.

The palace was used for shooting some scenes of the 1999 Roman Polanski's film "The Ninth Gate", which featured famous actors like Johny Depp, Lena Olin and Emmanuelle Seigner. Not surprisingly it is a mystery film.

Hello Jose,

First thank you for reviewing my last photo, which unhappily went to waste. With your good eye, you saw the 'z-structure' in the photo. I had forgotten to sharpen it, and that last little effort was so useful, that I took it back. I'll submit it again tomorrow. This image you've posted is first rate, the note is highly informative. The resolution in the details are excellent, and the buff colored palace stands in dramatic contrast to the deep cerulean blue of the sky.

Warm regards, José, I've had to keep a low profile from TE, swamped by work.

Bulent

Jose, this shot is great and the structure is so intricate, it is fascinating in itself and the angle of your composition heightens the allure, but the reflection in the mid frame window is masterful, fantastic capture.

Greg

Hello Jose.
Photographed in a wonderful light with some framing achieved by the branches of the trees. Very good detail on the facade of the palace. Superb reflection in the high window, which I think you might have enriched with a little PP, but it looks great.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Jose,
A good POV and framing including some bits of branches here and there... Excellent light, colors and sharpness. This palace has a real magnificent architecture. A well detailed note with many links!!!

Olá José,
clear, sharp, wonderful contrasts nd the reflection of the sky in that window is very nice. I like this upview, making most buildings more important, here with a great amount of details and very good texture of the walls. The blue sky talks for itself. The branches are a bit difficult for me, the right one could not be avoided, it is a pity that it overlaps with the wall there. It is more personal, but I think I would have cloned to upper ones out only to make it clean there.

Hello Jose!
Great light and perfect detail in your picture!
Nice perspective and colours!
Excellent done!
Best regards!
Lili

...I return... :)

Jose,
I remember quite well your previous pst looking over to a small balcony and several masonic signs. This shot has the interesting view of the front and I almsot feel my neck going up to reach for the higher portions of the tower. Interesting details along the rims and windows. Finally I see where the brazilian wealth ended.
Regards, Peter

Hello José,
This interesting architectural shot is well captured, with very good light control, despite the harsh light. The sharpness is good and the details are well visible. You did well to include the few branches, obtaining a good natural frame also. Well done, my friend!
Tfs and best wishes.

José,
Incrível a qualidade tecnica dessa foto.

Another nice pov from this historic building, i see more clearly the beautiful architectures with very nice blue sky as bg. I suggest maybe better to step back few steps included the branches at the top and see more details the building. Nevertheless it still a nice capture, thanks jose :-)

daniel

Hi Jose, Brilliantly sharp, a great POV & excellent light, the sky is a wonderfully strong blue, very impressive detail in gorgeous architecture, only one fault in my eyes & is that I would like to see more of the building & less of the sky, still a very nice shot, kind regards Wilson.

Hi Jose

Great detail .. beautiful vibrant color .. I love the framing trees .. my favorite part of it thought is the reflection in the windows .. wonderful .. great note as well.

take care,

John

ricardo

What a fabulous note about this palace.
I would have loved to see the whole building in the WS.
Nice details.
Raluca

Bonsoir
