If it's lonely, go give it a hug and make its day ;-)
Whilst not an exciting picture it does record quite faithfully a Baobab tree in its local setting and you have photographed it in such a way as to give tonality to the trunk and a bit of cloudy interest in the sky. The only minor (very minor) point is the horizon is not quite level - I gotta do something to turn it from pure comment to critique so I can give you some points!

Nice first post, Bill. Welcome to TE. The clouds and the other trees in the background make the photo more interesting.

Wow, ces arbres ont l'air si majestueux. C'est une image digne du Seigneur des Anneaux. Les couleurs sont si bien réussis, on dirait une bande dessinée. La composition et l'exposition sont parfaites. Bienvenue sur Trekearth.

Great first post. The other lonely trees in the background is what makes this shot impressive for me. Happy posting ;)

Very first post and I love the trees going into the yonder. I included some vital statistics on the Baobab tree:
The baobab is found in the savannas of African and India, mostly around the equator. It can grow up to 25 meters tall and can live for several thousand years. The baobab is leafless for nine months of the year. If I were to describe the baobab, I would say that it looks like it has been picked out of the ground and stuffed back in upside-down. The trunk would be the tap-root, and the branches the finer capillary roots.
"The baobab was among the first trees to appear on the land. Next came the slender, graceful palm tree. When the baobab saw the palm tree, it cried out that it wanted to be taller. Then the beautiful flame tree appeared with its red flower and the baobab was envious for flower blossoms. When the baobab saw the magnificent fig tree, it prayed for fruit as well. The gods became angry with the tree and pulled it up by its roots, then replanted it upside down to keep it quiet."
The baobab looks like this for a reason. In the wet months water is stored in its thick, corky, fire-resistant trunk for the nine dry months ahead.
The baobab's bark, leaves, fruit, and trunk are all used. The bark of the baobab is used for cloth and rope, the leaves for condiments and medicines, while the fruit, called "monkey bread", is eaten. Sometimes people live inside of the huge trunks, and bush-babies live in the crown.

When you think about Madagascar, you think about Baobab.
The one you have here is well captured and the composition is good as well.

Although the photo is a bit over-sharpened the composition is excellent. The single baobab and his "friends" in the distance and spreading in a diagonal way. Good colours too.
Nice to see green grass for a change. My baobab pic is quite dry and dusty.

Wow! I have never seen such a tree! Looks like from a technicolor movie :)
Such a tree deserves to be centered as in your composition, very nice background with the other trees that creates a depth. The colours are excellent too.
Impressive first posting.
Welcome to TE Bill!

There is nothing in the photo that shows me the scale of the landscape, but this tree looks very tall. Good composition and exposure. The bark on this tree looks like leather. Truely an up-side-down tree.

What an unusual tree! The central composition works well here thanks to your terriric depth of field. That group of trees in the background is what makes this composition work.

I thought I'd take a look at your work. This picture caught my eye - nicely composed and looks quite surreal to me. I agree with other comments about the trees in the background adding to the effect too.

Great shot Bill! Nothing but baobabs, what a landscape! Your placing the tree in front squarely in the middle is a bit static, more drama could have been made with a stromger perspective and placing the tree on the "third"

"Wow, these trees seem majestic. It's an image worthy of the Lord of the Rings. The colors are so well put together, one could think it was drawn. the composition and the exposure are perfect. Welcome to trekearth."

I've heard about thoses trees that are "upside-down" when I was in South-Africa. Unfortunately, I didn't see any, not even in pictures.
But, lucky me, now I understand why my friend was so impressed by those reversed trees.

Very interesting shot. I particulary like the other baobab trees that are standing in distance. Well done!

This is rather a weirder shape than the African baobabs. The one in Vic Falls is 1500 years old. I wonder how old the ones in the picture are. I like the composition and colours of this one though it has been sharpened a little too much. Thanks for sharing a fabulous first picture.
