Photographer’s Note
Porto Moniz – the name of this village is related to Francisco Moniz who was married with one of the grand daughters of Gonçalves Zarco, the discoverer of the Madeira. Porto Moniz is the most north-western point of the island and very spectacular one.
In Porto Moniz You can find beautiful natural pools. Surrounded by bizarre black lava rocks, these shallow pools are filled with crystal clear sea water by the tide. Some of these pools are a favourite bathing place for the visitors.
