Photographer’s Note

I have a crack in my soul
where bright green strings
of mossy tendrils drape
and fall to cover
the scars of old breaks
and burns.
Where golden fluid leaks
in burning drops
that feed the roots
from where it grows
like tears
that fail to dry with time.
I know why the soul must crack
from time to time.
If you love enough to fill your soul,
then like a tree
you must grow.
And if ,
in growing,
the bark cracks,
then grow you must,
for to stop growing is to die.
I have a crack in my soul,
where my love runs out
to grow and spread
and return again
to fill my soul
to cracking.
