Photographer’s Note
I took this photo at the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto. It is one of the most famous temples in all of Japan.
I had just paid entrance into the temple and was walking towards the famous balcony overlooking the forest. All the tourists were crowding onto the terrace trying to take photos before the sun set.
But I noticed this interesting little collection of statues. I'm not exactly sure the meaning of these statues, nor the red bibs, and would love for somebody to let me know.
I took this shot without a tripod, so am happy with the result of the limited light available. Nobody was taking any notice of this little area, and I had the whole part to my self. It pays to look around when you're in very touristy areas, you never know what interesting little things you'll find.

David,
your little exploration of the place and finding an tourist untouched spot payed out extremely well. You rlight management is very good, varying from almost abscence of light to areas where light is almost in the range of overexposure. The contrast of the red bibs against the dark/ black is fantastic. The two green bushes are vital for the balance of the colors of this shot.

Hello David,
I reall like the background because of the little section of red bibs under the window light. It does create an interesting effect and fills the background very well. ood exposure and the colours look great. I also wonder wht the bibs represent. Thanks David.

Good selection of lighted area vs the dark shadow for this contrast, David, and I particularly like the bright FG as highlighted with the reds.
I am no longer interested to ask what is in the dark shadow, when you have the window lights filtering in at top left.
Great pov here in this composition. Well done. TFS
