The legong dance is a traditional, very formal, dance, originaly dedicated to the princes. The music accompanying the dance is played on a gamelan, which is a set of different percussions.
In Sebatu, a village specialised in the manufacturing of wooden sculptures exported everywhere in the world, a groupe of non professional Legong dancers has reached an international level. They play regularly in famous concert halls in different western countries.
We had a wonderful opportunity to see them dance on their normal rehersal stage in Sebatu. It was unforgetable. |
