Photographer’s Note
I took a shot of this, wondered why it was so blurry, and realized that my lens had fogged up in the Tropical Rain Forest Exhibit of Woodland Park Zoo. After I cleared it off, things turned out a lot better, but it still required regular, frequent wiping-offs. I can see why these snakes just sit in piles and don't move very much. What else would one want to do in a place that was perpetually that humid and warm, where you can't just go out of the building if it gets too stuffy? For a cold-blooded animal, it must be awfully pleasant to lie in their little snake positions for hours on end,soak up the warmth and the humidity, and doze off....
