[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Namaskard is an active solfatara field in the Krafla volcano area near lake Myvatn in northern Iceland. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland just a few kilometres off the ring road. I was struck by the way the fumes from the steam vent contrasted with the sulphurous terrain on this very overcast and slightly rainy day.

I have finally written an Iceland travelogue.

Hello John,

Good idea the travelogue! It makes easier to discover the photos by thema.
Those iceland landscapes are really incredible. Perhaps a little too much foreground on this photo to my feeling, perhaps a little cropping to remove a part of the bottom could be a possibility. But there is a real interest and subject with the steam and the heavy clouds just above.

Yves.

Hi John,

wonderful shot of this exquisite place. You chose a good pov and the contrasting dark sky is a nice bonus. Great work!
Regards,
Carlos

Hi John
Nice satured colours in a nice composition of a beautiful Iceland spot.
The picture invites to visit it.
Well done.
Huub.

Hi John,
incredible POV for an incredible country...
Amazing colour, wonderful contrast ...
Well done.
Best Regards
Alex

Fantastica !
Did you desaturate the sky ?
Because the grey dull sky is just perfect here.
You wouldm't get similar breat results with a blue clean sky.
Here you need a grey sky !
Bellissima.
Stefano

Hi John,
Woaw..! Lovely great picture..!
Good framing, good light and colours, this sky is very impressive..!
Good shot..!
Well done,
Patrick

what a wonderful and amazing landscape shot! :-) this is iceland and not mars? *g* excellent wide-angle view, well composed with
terrific details. the combination of the reddish earth, the white steam and the dark dramatic sky is really great.
well seen & captured, thor.

Hi John,
that´s a fantastic photo. The grey, colourless sky is a great contrast to the warm brown soil. Looks like on Mars, if Mars had an atmosphere :)
Regards, Johannes

Hi John

Very beautiful landscape and very beautifully captured image. Good composition and a great POV.

Lopshang.

Hi john,
You do not post often, but when you post it's always a high quality image. Not just a quick snapshot as see so many here during the day, but a well thought composition with very good balance in subject and colour. Here it's the contrast between earth and sky the absolute winner, but also the middle section with the steam is a very interesting part of it...great shot, i like it a lot.
Regards, Henk

Hi John
I like the strong contrasts and the rich colour of the foreground. The sky is so dramatic, especially combined with the billowing smoke. Lots of depth too.
Regards
Nikki

Hi John

love the saturated colours, and the dark stormy sky really adds drama to the shot

Derek

Hi John,

Very nice image. I like particularly the contrast between the hot colors of the ground and the cold atmosphere of the sky. Good work ! Cordially,

Christophe

John,
wonderful drama unfolding here. Full of dynamics with the steam contrasting with the dark clouds in the sky. The foreground to the right of the image is interesting and has a lot of elements that attract attention but the majority of the foreground in the middle and in the left side is to dominant and empty.
Peter

Ciao John,
bellissima compisizione come al solito hai enfatizzato l'atmosfera drammatica, questi bei nuvoloni sono eccezionali.
ottimo lavoro
Giorgio

Fantastic!!. John the colours are so striking and the orange really stands out against the grey sky. The line in the clouds emphasize the depth in this shot.
Phil

Hola John
Saludos,
Mirari

wowwwww.....fantastic one ,your compositions always surprise me :) even if i know well the places you show :)
great picture ,i love the colors
thanks sharing

Hi John,

this one goes straigh to my favourites. It is perfect (oh...I feel like I'm repeating myself..but that is totally your fault :) I love absolutely everything about it: wide angle, colour combination of excellent contrast, steam creating its own dimension on the horizon but mostly all together producing most surreal and silver like ambient. My sincere compliments.

Kind regards,
Jeri

Dear John, I am less on TE right now, due to many other things to follow up...
I love those grey skies...the mood they bring and here, they enhance marveloussly the rich earthen colors. I am, like you, in awe of the fumes and the overall landscape. The bits of lighter sky inbetween the darker clouds are great. Compliments also for the travelogue, I have already picked up useful information for the car rental:-).

Great weekend to you
Michèle

This one is amazing John! I like the different contrasts in it. The sky contrasting the orange colour of the earth is what makes the first great impact, enhanced by the steam in the middle section; the right side and its details is well contrasted by the emptiness of elements on the left hand side and the whole lot is just a superb picture to look at. Great job!
Take care,

Igor

Hi John,

great photo of this amazing landscape, looks almost like from another planet...well done! The stormy sky is a bonus...

Take care, Ivana
