The India Gate is a war memorial in New Delhi commemorating the Indian dead of the First World War. The India Gate today also houses the Indian Army's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Situated on the Rajpath in [New Delhi]], the India Gate was originally called the All India War Memorial is a monument built by Edwin Lutyens to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan Wars. The foundation stone was laid on 10 February 1921 by the Duke of Connaught. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls. It was completed in 1931. The 42 metre tall India Gate is situated such that many important roads spread out from it. Traffic passing around India Gate used to be continuous until the roads were closed to the public due to terrorist threats. The lawns around Rajpath are thronged by people during the night, when the India Gate is lit up. The India Gate also has some resemblance to the Arc de Triomphe of Paris. Inscribed on top of India Gate in capital letters is the line:

“ To the dead of the Indian armies who fell honoured in France and Flanders Mesopotamia and Persia East Africa Gallipoli and elsewhere in the near and the far-east and in sacred memory also of those whose names are recorded and who fell in India or the north-west frontier and during the Third Afghan War. ”

Hi Sagarneel,
I like your POV, but why is the Gate tilted to the right? I think there was some kind of lens distortion, because the tree and the light looks straight to me. The washed out sky actually looks good here, the gate stands out even more.
Well done,
Shaeri
delhi te move kore gecho already? :)

Hi Sagarneel!

Excellent capture of this marvellous monument! The composition is simple, but ideal for this kind of photography, nothing "disturbing" the eye which focuses immediately at the main subject. The colours are brilliant and the only "problem" that I can find is the washed out sky. Besides that, a great job!

Best regards,
Hercules

Dear Sagarneel,
a very dignified shot of the stately building.
this gate is rather big, when we look up it from the foot of it, the feeling may be specail different from this whole image you took from distance...but this your shot is great to express well "The spirit of India".
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Sagarneel,

Curiously, a monument which resembles, partly, with the Triumphal arch in Paris… An interesting photograph on the building and I like this tree with the red flowers which is attractive in the image and makes forget this white sky. Pretty glance Sagarneel and thank you for the note.

With all my friendships and with soon,

Jean-Charles

hi Sagar!

Hello Sagarneel
Okhla to India Gate, but not a bit down to CP? You got decent weather thank God & the gloomy light actually helped you, rather than the harsh noon sun. The red flowers seem to jump out of the screen. Nice work Sagar!
Best Wishes
Angshumanda

Hi Sagarneel,
I have seen this only from the distance, while travelling in a taxi on the street below it, but I remember well its imposing figure.
You did a wonderful choice of POV and the red blossoming tree on the left makes the image a lot nicer. It's a pity that dull sky and the dirt on the FG, but it is still a great photo.
It is slightly inclined to the right. Although that is just a picky detail that doesn't do much harm, I tried a WS, I hope you don't mind.
Regards, José.

hello sagarneel

i like the elements (the blooming tree, the memorial, the story), but something feels too casual (for a capture of a monument with this significance) about this one: possibly it's the white sky, possibly, the dug-up earth in the foreground, possibly the composition.

i bow my head to the fallen though.

warm regards
kristaps

Hi Sagarneel,

wonderful capture with great and educational note. I like it very much, specially the red tree in front of it and with green ground surface being in contrast. Some would complain about "white" sky but for me it works perfectly, leaving image of mainly three colours, very harmonic and excellently balanced, giving the gate a chance to stand out. I think you saw that to and make this excellent shot.

Kindest regards,
Jeri

This is a very beautiful memorial , and a very nice picture. Original pov and fantastic color. I love it! TFS and have a great day!

Although on a slight angle, this impressive monument is well framed and composed. Its a classic sight for those who have been to Delhi.
Namaste!
Dave

Hi dear Sagarneel,
most interesting note and place...but I have to admit that I do find the image lacks in punch for my taste. The tilt could be can be easily redressed, the red flowers make a nice contrast, but contrary to some above, the washed out sky makes the whole rather dull in my eyes, it is not easy to make buildings look original on pic, here there are no shadows for example....also the very classic pov. Maybe try another day where the light is better, towards evening maybe, and what about a low pov, closer maybe, partially showing the tower..with some people...
The sharpness and clarity are very good.

Hope your dad is well now and you too...
Kind regards from Brussels
Michèle
