the older I grow, the more difficult it is for me to subscribe to the saying that there is no "I" in team, love or anywhere else, meaning that personal ambitions and wishes should be sacrificed in the name of greater good. while I fully agree that unlimited ego is difficult to tolerate, I don't think denying personality would in any way benefit the common goal. after all, every team is a combination of different "I's".

somebody is even suggesting that there is no "I" in myself, creating this statement from tiny stones on the wall near the Peace Pogoda in Leverett, Massachusetts. even though I do not agree with this statement, I thought it looked good with magnolia and forsythia framing it. of course, there is a tilt ;)

Hi dear,
Lovely colours in this nice composition. Great POV and details. Excellent Sharpness and light.
Warm greetings
Aires

Kristine, interesting question/statement in your note. The shot represents the thought and the title very well, is colorful and crisp and interestingly angled. As for your note I couldn't agree more, with a well developed sense of self there are no leaders or thinkers or artists and ultimately no society beyond mutual dependancy. Nice presentation.

Greg

A nice composition with vivid flowers..
Good light and sharpness..

very interesting tilted composition with excellent natural light and colours

Hi Kristine. I think that the "I" here is more to do with the ego, the self-absorbed Self, the mind that contorts, distorts, deceives. When that I ceases to be, then the true aspect of the Being manifests itself and true love is then the only possible method of interaction.I could be wrong, but it smacks to me of Eastern philosophy. The photograph is lovely, filled with colour and light. Nice composition, particularly the branch leading to the corner. Regards. Klaudio.

Interesting note and nice photo Kristine, fine work, compliments!!!

have a nice day,
Fabio.

hello Kristine, very intereting note about myself... a lot words wil be possible here.. but for your photo is good details flowers and beautiful light. thanks

Hi Kristine,
Interesting note that make me think about the question. Your picture is splendid took under a creative POV that you could catch different kind of plants which on with nice colors. The flowers, in foreground, that I guess its will be "magnolia" are well captured with splendid soft light on them. The palette of colors is amazing and show a beautiful contrast. Well done. Regards, Consuelo

Hi, Kristine -

I see you're back to your heavily tilted shots again! This one I think is successful, because of the way the monument and the branched flower create such strong diagonals.

As for the "I": It seems to me you are complaining about the sentiment from the perspective of one who has lived under communism, which held (at least in theory) to the unimportance of the individual. American capitalism, on the other hand, overemphasizes the individual (the lone ranger, the cowboy, the frontiersman), so from our perspective it's good to be reminded that the individual is not the ultimate. However, in both cases it's easy to flip from one extreme to the other, which is the problem you confronted here.

< soapbox > My view is that the best model is neither extreme, but community instead - where the worth of the individual is balanced against the needs of the whole. This results in a balance which is constantly shifting and readjusting, and therefore more complex - some people would say more difficult - but ultimately more meaningful. < end soapbox >

Best,
Dan

hey there :)

I or no I, that's a beautiful spring explosion there. love the wide angle 'in the face' presence of the magnolia bush and the arrangement of color areas (yellow, blue, green, 'pinkish'). a nice one!

Kristine,
Great POV you've chosen carefully to include all of these element that me this image a perfect composition, even if you have to tilted the camera to get it. Great combination of colors and contrast between the two different flower. Great sharpness and clarity, beautiful light and colors, with great message to go with all that. Thanks Kristine.

Hi Kristine,

you keep the same atmosphere we felt about the post before this one. It's pure spring color. Yellow, white, pink...all there. You chose a different framing which I like a lot. It's dynamic and well composed. Well done!

Hi Kristine,
I see you are taking full advantage of these stunning colors that combine so well. Wonderful POV that allows you to include the cloudless blue sky. Excellent details and sharpness to this superb classic spring image.

P.S. I always wondered how to spell forsythia!

A very philosophic issue you putting up (with a tilt) Kristine. there's a special words for "I" weakness.
without it they dont have identity and will and it's easy to serach for them who make use of them.
and then things can go really bad.

Hi Kristine.
I think sometimes it could be that there are no "I" in ourself, those times which something hard or strange happens that displace us temporarily from ourself,as the top of the trees in a windy day.I think this statement was written in one of those windy days of soul..,but I'm agree with you that world is full of "I's",no only one for person and life, but all the personal "I´s" that we'll be along the life while we are improving and growing up.And because in one meaning exceptionally material,we also are world and to world we'll return.
About your shot..,it`s perfectly coloured and sharp,as always, the composition gives it a good effect,I like the small branch crossing the picture in diagonal.Watching your shot it's like receive a bunch of flowers with a big note inside it...
Best wishes,
Sonsoles.

Wow, excellent framing for this one, Kristine, so dynamic... as for the statement you photographed - it may be true, for some people there indeed isn't any "I" in "myself", only "my" and "self" instead... but of course as it's a buddhist site, the meaning was most probably different...

Cheers
A

Hey Kristine,

There is Intent, Interest and Imagination in this photograph. It is blindingly obvious and straighforward the viewer seeing message. The soothing natural scenery interpretes the opposite of the statement. We live alongside with nature and we know who really is incharge and how fragile human beings are. The material world is part of this living society, man fight over power, wanting more stocks, buying properties they don't need and the meaningless things like oil and the luxurious lifestyle that tear society, ourselves and the world around us. I wished for a simpler life though working to overcome those differences and making our lives and world a better place to live. We destroy nature around us we kill ourselves and others.

Thank you for sharing a wonderful image with 'statement'. This may matter not at all, but it does suggest giving some thought for us to reflect.

Best Regards,

Jom

Individualism has a controversial relationship with egoism (selfishness). While some individualists are egoists, they usually do not argue that selfishness is inherently good. Rather, some argue that individuals are not duty-bound to any socially-imposed morality and that individuals should be free to choose to be selfish (or to choose any other lifestyle) if they so desire. Others, such as Ayn Rand, argue against moral relativism and argue selfishness is a virtue. Others still argue against both moral relativism and egoism.*

Wow Kristine, I don't have the time to say something about the subject, but just this : great picture with perfect tilt,:-), you managed to make this look interesting, dynamic and intriguing, I would'n know what to do here...apart from the excellent quality of it all I also love your note, wish we could discuss it, great mix, my compliments !

Kind regards
Michèle

Hello Kristine,

Well, perhaps it's a priest or religious fanatic, totally devoted to the higher being, who has written that line. Then there might be a chance of not having an 'I' in myself.
Yeah, the tilt is totally insane! I just really detest strong tilts, but since it is so over the top, I was only focussing on the letters. And it is a good message you are having here.

I think there's no 'I' without teams either. And I'm not even Japanese ;-).

Greetings, Dennis

Hello Kristine,

Very nice explosion of flowers !

Bonsoir Kristine,
It is difficult for me to understand your questioning on the ego, my English is really too bad! But I appreciate this compositions colored around the magnolia and around the forsythia (the botany has no problems of language!).
A very pleasant tilt also.
Thank's for all your visits and your comments always very interesting!

Heya Kristine;)
Lovely flowers, we have also shown similar here being afraid this kind of a photo will be automatically removed...

Really good shot with an interesting note. Colours and sharpness are superb - like always;) Great compo, so freshy, spring atmosphere...Really nice photo with a good idea...

Hugs,
Mikeo

PS. Good tilt again Mrs. Freaky Tilt;)

I like your POV, with this lonely branch that extracts herself from the crowd of flowers, like an I, illustrating your note in a strong way... And the colors are good.

Marine

hi Kristine

Very good way to debate a philosophy through a photo post. And it is always a hot topic. In many different cultures and parts of the world, the meaning is always not the same. Teamwork vs individualism is never the same for many of us, and compare it like in Peru, Ecuador, Finland, Japan, Tanzania, India, Romania etc. The answers...many versions. You are right to disagree.

tfs, bill

Hi Kristine,

Impressive composition. I love the way you framed the subject, the flowers pop out so beautifully this way. Great use of the diagonal and the statement in the compo. Bravo! :)

Hello Kristine
Interesting post...first the picture part, especially the idea of tilt, which works well here. Like the flowers as they reach towards the top corner (thanks about the names of the flowers). A lot can be said about the message in pebbles, but I just want to share what I overheard in the Metro today, a lady (part time astrologer & advisor I guess) telling that there is nothing called WE. It's a combination of two 'I's...and on she went with her example...set me thinking & in all probability she's right!

Hello Kristine!
It's a very creative and thoughtful picture... I'd say philosophical!
I like them, both the picture (colors, sharpness and the vegetation itself) and the philosophy! Something to be thought over, carefully! People usually praise altruism and condemn egoism, however, for real, most of them are egocentric! Accepting a certain egoism is good, a good start to become better, at least, less hypocrites!
Anyway, your picture made me think a bit about the subject! TFS - Congratulations!
Warmest regards,
Neyvan

Kristine,
Really? There is a tilt here? Where? It must be an I thing, because I can't see it? ;-)
Beautiful composition and the tilt made it even better showing that there was an I behing the camera to conceive the image and present it the way it is. Marvelous!
