It's a Swamp Thing Photo

Photographer’s Note

It's a Swamp Thing...........at least it's doing a pretty good impression of one - with a temperature to match today! Releasing those clouds certainly did the trick!

This was taken on the banks of Talybont Reservoir, where the constantly changing water level has created a micro swamp environment teaming with flies and little fish.
Put's me in mind of The Missing Tiger, another un-Welsh Welsh image.

p.s.
Looking back at the original file, I was quite impressed to note that this was shot at ISO 800, with no noise reduction in camera or in PP. (I'm not used to ISO 800 being useable).

Very pretty colors and reflections. I love how greens and browns are melted. A lovely and clever composition with the canopy invisible up but reflected in the swamp. Well done!

Hi Colin,

I love the colors and the dappled light in this swamp scene. Those different shades of green go perfectly with the reddish muck on the bottom and those splashes of blue sky reflecting in the water are super. Positioning the tree on the right low in the frame is perfect. This deserves way more attention than it has gotten.

definately looks swampy in a Mississipi(have I spelt that right?) kind of way. Nice play of light and reflections. The colours give it a surreal qaulity.

Colin,
Very beautiful image with reflection of the water with so much color and interesting shapes of dark and light. The spots and rays of the sunlight shining through the tree give this image a special admosphere. Good sharpness and good light. I have taken many photo with ISO 800 in dark places, usually you don't see that much grain or noise unless you blown it up big. You should not be able to see it at this size really. Well done. Hi Colin,
Pure magic. Trees on the water. Light reflecting from water surface showing all the green foliage, combined with red tones of sunlit bottom. Technically excellent with bright colours and strong contrast. And with good artistic eye.

John Munro led me to your gallery advising me to look at one of your other images. However I prefer this one and love the strong colours and the light; in particular the stripes of orange light and the way they illuminate the bottom of the "swamp". I also love reflections and always think they deserve a look.
I'm a Nikon shooter too and agree the latest DSLRs are a big improvement on the noise issue.

Hi Colin, This is a really nice take on the swamp. From my recollection the light coming through has been captured perfectly and reminds me of my home from home in the Deep South (GA and FL, USA). Good sharpness all round. Well done, TW (ps. The Natural History Museum is free to enter!)

What I like most about your photo is the strong composition, with the strong dark shadow lines and the diagonal rays of light reflected in the water.
I also like a lot the strong colors and great depth of the photo.
