Volcanic eruptions began in Cappadocia in the Upper Miocene about 70 million years ago. The lava flew from volcanoes submerged in lakes. The plateau of tuff formed from the materials discharged by the main volcanoes was then continuously altered by the eruptions of smaller and less violent volcanoes. From the Upper Pliocene onwards, these layers of tuff were exposed to erosion by rain and the waters of lakes and rivers, paticularly the Kizilirmak, resulting in what we see today. Foodwater pouring down the sides of valleys combined with strong winds tore away the softer volcanic rock exposing the harder parts and resulting in the formations known an "fairy chimneys" of which there are several types in Cappadocia - conical pointed, columnar, or mushroom-shaped. Here in the very spectacular "Love Valley".

Salut Vincent

Amicalement.

hello Vincent,
"Love Valley", huh? :) somebody was very polite and romantic when naming this place :))
most bizarre rock formations, it's interesting how they mirror the shapes if the trees. your photo works well to illustrate this fascinating place, I like a lot the changing tones of the green and the depth of the scene. very well seen and presented.

Salut Vincent,
Marc

Hi Vincent
Fine view of this stones forest. EXcellent POV, colours and details.
TFS and greetings

Hi Vincent,
This is such a strange yet fascinating looking place, one day I will go and visit there. Nice wide angle to show a vast area of this valley with its interesting formations.
Regards
Wanda

Salut Vincent.

JP

Phalic forest...Love the effect you got with this perspective - that one in the middle seems thin as a sheet of paper. A little tight on the left - a bit more of sky would be nice - but it's a good POV with great depth. Amazing place.
ric

Bonjour Vincent
Bon dimanche.

Hi Vincent,
Another nice one from that famous area. Although the sky didn't give you a clear blue colour, it's the composition which i like...very good.
Regards, Henk

Salut Vincent,
Bon dimanche JY

Hello Vincent,

The rock formations are very interesting. I can imagine the millions of years that pased for them to take shape. Nice image composed with good colours and details. The view is exotic and it good depth. Thanks for sharing.

Bonjour Vincent,

Hello Vincent!
Very interesting and beautiful those rocky formations!
Capadocia is always surprising and gives us good pictures here at TE!
Yours is no different: what a photograph!
The name "Love Valley" fits right to the place... they look like mushrooms but also... you know what I mean!

Perfect use of the wide angle to show us the famous chimneys. The one in the middle looks quite thin. The phallic stones are really amazing. Maybe a bit of sky more at the top...but an excellent picture anyway.

Bonjour,

Hello Vincent,

A bit different point of giving more emphasis to the size of the structures!
A well balanced composition, where the fine light adds to the impact...

Hello Vincent,

A superb view of the fairy chimneys, complemented by a highly informative note. Although I am a practicing scientist, I had never seen a consistent and reasonable explanation. Their formation, beginning in the Pliocene era, makes sense, rather than a much later time. Well composed, skillfully exposed shot from just two months ago. They are somewhat evocative of the Bryce Canyon, at least in the shot by Kathy Marsher in Full Orchestra.

Warm regards,

Bulent
