Photographer’s Note

Ponza is the largest in the Pontine Islands, which are the remains of extinct volcanoes. Ponza is a crescent shaped, about 7 km long island. The island has a mostly rocky coast made of kaolin and tuff rock. It has odd natural rock formations and numerous water line caves.
It also has Faraglione's or giant sea stacks made of solid rock.

I did not know anything about Ponza before our trip there, so the island provided me many surprising and wonderful sights, the names and backgrounds of which I was able to learn only afterwards when back at home.

The stacks of Lucia Rosa inherit their name from a real event which occurred at the end of the eighteenth century. Lucia Rosa threw herself into the Tyrrhenian Sea rather than being forced to marry a man against her wishes.

Technical background:
I took this photo from the open upper part of the mini-bus window, because the window at my seat was obscured. That meant I had to stand and keep myself balanced with one hand while trying to hold the camera with my other hand. This, and the lack of photographing skills from a fast moving vehicle resulted in many unsharp or otherwise bad photos.
In this one I had a better luck though. The only post processing made was correcting the tilting horizon, adding a little contrast and sharpening.
