Photographer’s Note

Back to the purpose of all my maritime travelogues, to give you a taste of what it feels like to sail of a tall ship. Here, a rather classical point of view of the mizzen mast of Sorlandet, during the same first day of fine weather. The lower part of the main mast (including part of the first plateform) is visible on the right of the picture.
For the technical side, the mizzen mast is the mast located at the rear of the ship. Here, because Sorlandet is a fullrigger, the mizzen mast has square sails, but note that no sail is ever set below the lowest yard, since putting one would have the sole effect of depriving the main sail in front of it of most of the wind...
