[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Day 1 of our TE meeting:

First a long drive from the Central Valley to the coast, bypassing the Bay Area where I had the first feeling of disappointment. Driving along the San Rafael Bridge I saw all the thick fog creeping in and covering San Francisco. From that point on I knew that the meeting would be a constant fight with the fog.

The fog covered pretty much the entire Point Reyes Peninsula and left only the Tomales Bay and the continental portion free of fog from noon to late afternoon. Blue hour looking at Black Mountain gave a glorious alpenglow. Between these buildings was a white horse! A real eye-catcher … I stopped to work on that composition, got the tripod and everything else ready to go and during all this time the horse was watching me with the most advantageous pose. I was excited in anticipation to get that shot, BUT at the moment that I finally was ready to trigger the shutter … the rascal decided that it wasn’t in the mood of having its picture taken, turned around and trotted away.

Well, the moment was still worth it!

Hello Peter,
Important to read the note in order to understand this mysterious title ;-) Was it a horse or a rascal :o)
Anyway, the suroundings are great and this composition is very well thought. The lights are just great and give a very nice mood. It is true that, after reading the note, I just find something is missing...
Photography is really a matter of mastering so many subjects ;-)
Have a nice day.
Best regards, Christian

Bonjour Peter,
Daniel.

Hi Peter.

Very good this vertical view where the 19mm view has done a wonderful work.

Well done.

Bloedes Ross :) Was hast wieder gemacht ... Barbara.

Hi Peter,
Too bad the horse has gone... maybe your technique involves a bit too much preparation for such a spontaneaous opportunity !
That being said this image has a good progression with an important flower foreground, maximum depth and looking at the flowers no wind at all to remain that still during 1/2 sec.
Have a nice day JY

Peter
Composition, couleurs, lumière....superbe tout ça!
Amicalement

Hi Peter,

You missed the character.. Was he the hero?
This image has its own soul...
Beautifull depiction of a wondrous world.
Fine colours.
All the best, dear friend.

Excellent composition!! I love the colors, from the flowers to the sky! A beautiful scene!! Very nice depth and sharpness. TFS and have a great day!

Hi Peter,
For a moment i thought you stole my Etretat flowers ;-)
Pity about the horse, but that's the way it goes with animals, finding and setting up a tripod takes mostly to much time. But also without the white beauty you got a nice shot which looks strong in hard in the foreground and a bit softer in the back. Good combination with the red, yellow and blue...
Regards, Henk

Hi Peter,
a nice image, the foreground flower give a good depth and color to the image.
regards,didier

Carlos

Peter,
This is an excellent shot!
The flowers in the foreground add nice color and texture to the shot. The vertical format provides nice depth and direction for the shot. The lighting and colors are great wtih excellent sharpness and DOF.
TFS,
Asa

You know, I like sweeping foregrounds, that's why is use almost always my 10-22.
This one gets us in the middle of the flowers...it makes me wish to smell them. The contrast between the shadowed foreground and the sunset in the hills catch up for the interesting backgound (well managed with the grads by the way).
It's a shame about the horse though...bad photographic model ;-)

Great shot. I like the composition with nice colours and different layers. greetings,

figen

In situations like that I crank up the speed and go for handheld and THEN set up the tripod. Animals and tripods just don't go together. Mind you it still didn't work when I was trying to capture a couple of deer in a field close to home.
Never mind, you still got an excellent shot with the yellow flowers in the foreground. The light on the hills is beautiful and all the old sheds add something extra to the scene.
Well done
Kath

Hi, Peter -

Maybe a grab shot first, followed by a setup, would at least get you the horse. Although the shot looks great without him. And no wind for a full half-second!

I don't think it's quite the blue hour, though.

Best,
Dan

Yes animals are unpredictable, but this works well enough on its own, the light is exquisite, and the sun's angle gives nice separating shadows in the valleys.

Hi Peter,
Nice yellow colors of those flowers. I could be wrong but the sharpness of this picture could be better in my opinion.

Abração!

Hello Peter -

I think I would have made the handheld grab shot first. Lost moments, the bane of photographers! Regardless of the horse this is nice image. Great FG elements but the barns and sheds as well as the light make this a keeper. Did you do this when Jo and I went off to dinner?

A second look at the image - I think this deserves to printed and hung but before you do that crop a bit from the left to remove the partial building. Print it!

Thank you for sharing.

John

Hi Peter,
Stunning depth and awesome details with the gorgeous yellow flowers in the foreground leading to those colorful and shadow ladden hills in the background. Very well seen and TFS. Gerald

Wagner.

What protagonist? The horse?? Well, sometimes we need to lose something that we think is indispensable, to discover something of greater beauty. The horse may have been an eye-catcher, but the flowers are enchanting : )

Hi Peter,
Lovely vertical presentation of this lush California countryside with its brilliant colors leading to the wonderfully textured hills and lovely blue sky.
Too bad you missed The Lone Ranger's Steed.
Regards, Tom

Nice shot Peter, the colors of this late afternoon sun is super. Interestingly the hill you have captured here looks very much like the landscape in Southern Israel though the green and the flowers would not be there. Your detail in the low light is really execllent. Great capture.

Greg

Hello Peter, good composed photo with excellent colors and POV. I like the color contrast between FG and BG. Good photo job!

TFS and regards,

Nice picture, good composition, decent color and a fun name!

Hello Peter,
Another excellent shot, as photography is concerned, but I am not sure about these white buildings among such a great landscape perhaps there was no way to avoid them.
I wish you a great week-end - Izzet

Hi Peter,

Mark

Peter,
This compo is great, with the use of eyecatcher yellow flowers in the FG;
Your vertical format choice is very good too, nice job,
Regards,
JB.

You are rightfully an inspiration for me specially with magical works like these. I love the way you have played and you alwys do so with the textures and colours and have blended them so well

Hello Peter,
Beautiful image accompanied with an interesting note...
I like the levels colors from the colorful foreground to the warm tones of the mountains to the background...
Like a piece of art in the nature...you found it,and composed very well!

Greetings,
Thomas

Hi Peter, I hope that all is well. Good and logical choice of the vertical format for this one, to give some depth and benefit from the delightful yellow foreground layer against the barren red hills in the back. Your competent technical and compositional work is as usually accompanied by some fine notes.

Ciao Peter,
nice shot, the foreground flower give a good depth, and the mountain in background they create mystery in the photo.
very nice work
Giorgio

Hi Peter. What is it they say about photographing children and animals? The shot is still strong though. Good FG interest with the wild flowers and a magnificent backdrop. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

Hallo Peter!
Jonas

Hello dear Peter,
What a wonderfull scene ! Amazing pov. The lights and shadows on the hill at backround creates a perfect effect.
TFS and best regards

Hi Peter,

Nice combination of primary colours; red, bue and green and some yellow as a bonus. Nice depth as well with the flowers in the foreground. A bit soft in the contrast, but still very pleasant with the rocks standing out with the light on it. Nice!

Dennis

Hello Peter
You may be a very occassional visitor to your gallery, but I do visit your gallery time & again, to learn more about photography. Beautiful yellow flowers building the FG, leading us to the buildings. Pity about the horse, maybe you could have tried capturing him without the tripod. Maybe he did not 'understand' the real purpose of the tripod, after all. But the glow of light falling on the red rocks is a show stealer here. Good work!
With regards
Angshu

Hi Peter,

Too bad the horse run away but the image is still very nice. The hills in the background add a more interesting element to the view while the yellow flowers add more colour. Nice framing of this scene. Thanks Peter.

concerning your photo,it is; as usual, properly framed with vibrant colors.

Peter, horse or no horse still a nice capture, the yellow flowers in FG adding colour, depth & interest, A clean sharp image with good natural looking colour.
Looking at the thumbnail my first impression was Uluru. Once opened all was revealed.
Thanks

Hi Peter
A great shot with strong FG colour. My wife has a horse so I know just what you are talking about. :))
