| I did not know Figueira da Foz, this nice touristic place with a delightful harbor city taste, placed at the estuary of the Mondego River. Therefore, I was truly amazed when I saw this incredible huge beach (this is only a small fragment), with its unbelievable width. There are no palm trees, there is no romantic bay. What there is is a sense of "Big" that truly impresses, to which one cannot escape indifferent. In Figueira da Foz, they managed to turn the city towards tourism without destroying it. In the centre, there is an immense park, gigantic for the size of the urban area. I was wandering who was the genius that managed to go forward with such a project, in a country where the tendency is build, build, build, and if possible, build ugly. Look at Setúbal, Santarém, Póvoa do Varzim, Vila Praia de Âncora, Vila Real, Castelo Branco. Look at the Algarve. Here, they did a very good job indeed. |
