[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Dongjiao Yelin is a small town centred around a large coconut plantation, about 10km north of Wenchang on the north east coast of Hainan. The place has excellent beaches, cheap places to stay, almost no development and practically no tourists - which made it appeal to me for a few days of relaxation away from the hectic mainland!

Having been living 1500km from the sea for the last 4 months, the most pleasing thing about being back again was the sky, and what a sky Hainan has!

This is what I've tried to capture, using the lighthouse for something of interest to focus on. I've adjusted the curves a little to draw some more colour out of the sky, and this is the result. Let me know what you think:)

beautiful sunset colours, nicely framed composition

Hello Lee,
the different tones and shades in the sky are simply amazing, as well as the partial reflection on the water. You placed the lighthouse well off center, even if I would have placed it even more off center to leave more room for the beautiful colours of the sunset. Anyway, this is a good job!
Thanks for sharing it and regards,

Igor

Hi Lee
great colours, composition and atmosphere
very well done
TFS regards lukasz

Hi Lee,

You are right. This is a great, relaxing place. As you can see, I've also posted a picture from there. It's quite a voyage to get there, as you know, which only adds to the exitement of being there.

I think you've done a good job with the sky. I like the colours and the reflection in the water.

Looking forward to see more of your China experiences here.

- Henrik.

Hi Lee,

I can't pass without leaving some words on this. I guess you love sunsets and so do I. Here I see such an attractive color combination on the sky. The tower breaks gracefully the horizon line and once more the panorama fits pretty well. I also like this. Great job!
Regards,
Carlos

Hello Lee
The colours from the sunset blend in very well with each other. Your holding very good shadow detail and there seems to be no pixelation in these areas. A tad more sharpening may have helped, btw are you shooting in raw or working straight from jpg?
Regards
Jim

Very beautiful sunset, full of colors and wiht a nice composition.
I'd be curious to see a version where the lighthouse is less centered (say, in the 1/3 to the right), it might improve the composition :)

Hello Lee,

I like this image very much — from the composition to the light management. A couple of things I might have tried, however, is to selectively lighten the very dark wooded area (the human eye can adjust to stark difference in light and shadow much better than even a good digital camera, and indeed you have a very good one). The other is the dark blotch of a cloud on the left. A close examination reveals that it is entirely natural. But "natural" is not always good, if it looks like a dust spot on the digital chip. I think, I would clone it out, or at least experiment with it. I hope you don't regard this as meddling, but it is an alternative. In any event, it is a very good photograph.

I am also impressed that you are teaching English in China. For generations, English has been taught by teachers, who learned English from other Chinese teachers of English, who learned English in turn from...

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hi Lee
I agree the sky is wonderful, must have been a treat to go there after so long time away from the water.
Looks like a great place
Harry
