Another shot from the beaches of Sanya (or DaDongHai to be more specific). Hainan bills itself as the place to surf in China, and I've no doubt it probably is, but that doesn't mean it's that great for it! It's a great place to learn as the waves are not crowded with other surfers, and their small and easy to catch, but of course the waves will be better as summer turns into autumn and the wind picks up.

"Sanya is the capital of beach tourism on Hainan, and therefore in the the whole of China. Hainan has some excellent beaches which are providing the impetus for a huge boom in the development of the island.
In many ways, Sanya was my least favourite place on Hainan as commercial tourism has completely taken over giving it a kind of "Benidorm in waiting" feel to it, but thankfully there are still lots of places on the island to escape the commercialism (for now!). Practically every place along the coast we stopped had some kind of tourist hotel under construction."
