[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Driving through farming land is very often confusing and it is easy to get lost. Once you leave the main roads you first think you can remember how you get from A to B and you draw these little maps in your brain “turn left at this house with the horse outside” but soon enough you realize that most houses have a horse and one house looks similar to the other and you won’t remember if it was the grey or the white house you had to turn left :) and I won’t explain you how this experience looks at night when you are tired after a heavy meal at the Mexican Restaurant in town but you have no idea where the campground was, if it was now to the right or to the left but the only thing you have in mind is your sleeping bag. There is not a lot of lights out here once the night has broken in, and if you had a Fruita local map there would be these roads going endlessly in squares.

Fruita has maybe not a million things to offer but for me these side roads are an important part to discover the rural side of the States. Fruita gives also access to the Colorado National Monument and I personally find this is enough reason to spend the night and have a closer look what this attractive park has to offer, less visited than the big brothers over in Utah but it leaves you more freedom and has this exciting red stone with spectacular formations that attracts thousands and thousands over the other border.

Great description, wonder photo, nice color and composition .TFS.

Hallo Barbara,
Interesting, because i never heard of Fruita, Colorado. There is a ghosttown Fruita in Utah near Capitol Reef N.P were i have been on a rainy day, but never heard of this place. So, you really surprised me on this one ;-)
The middle section all in blue looks great, and even better with those clouds on top of it.
The row of trees make a nice focalpoint and your perspective depth is classic, but very good.
Extra point for the note which i find more than interesting to travel along with you during this trip.
Schönes wochenende ;-)
Henk

Hallo Barbara!

Barbara,
I was racking my brain to remember where Fruita was - I knew I'd been there - or at least through there!

This is a nice little composition on one of the days which wasn't grey, I guess - and there's a pleasing "softness" to the crop - I guess you've focused on the tree line.

Anyways it all adds up to something which feels gentle - probably not truly appropriate for modern farming, but that's the impression the photo gives. Nice.

Regards
Colin

hi Barbara,
again, I had to laugh reading your note about houses and horses :))) thanks, it's a busy Friday for me, so a little coffee break with a good laugh is exactly what I needed.
the perspective is hypnotic, I feel drawn along the lines in the field towards the trees and buildings in the distance, and the long distance the eye has to travel nicely conveys the idea of endless fields under beautiful summer sky. the vertical format works well to emphasise this summer mood. nice :)

have a great weekend,
Kristine

Howdy Barb,
There a charming essence of places like this, I love driving on the highway through part of the farming community, seeing all the big open land with a lone house and some animal, mostly horse and some cows. Your image depict very well the kind of places. The composition work well drawing our sight toward the tree line, hourse and storage tanks. Beautiful sky and nice cloud for contrast. Maybe, just maybe a little bit of shaperning. Beautiful image, Thanks Barbara.

Hi Barbara,
Good use of the vertical perspective to feature this fine rural image. The grasses in the foreground lead to the farmyard with a beautiful sky overhead. Well seen and TFs, Gerald

You take of the landscapes and the rich tones you manage are extremely inspiring, vivid and beautiful. The dof and compsition in this image too are great and worth millions

Salut Barbara,
He he I had to LOL too reading the note, I imagine you driving endlessly in this maze, in that sense Toggenburg is a lot better place for orientation ;-)
still enough remaining light to get that field perspective well enhanced by the vertical format, still I miss something in this image after I have read your note, can you imagine what ?
Need to fix my Toggenburg sunburn now... ;-)
wish you a very nice sunday, JY

Excellent use of low POV and perspective for an image with tremendous depth. It's wonderful how the clouds are decorating the top of the image almost like a frame. You are unearthing lots of hidden corners in your US travelogue.
Kath

Hi Barbara, nice perspective and good composition
I like the nature here
i hope you are fine! :))
have a nice week!
ciao!
Valeria

The lines converging to the trees and farm sheds are an excellent element in this beautiful composition. The strong colours and the nice sky complement the good work done in here. I like it very much.
Antonio

Hallo Barbara,

Xavier

Lovely natural mellow colours of this vast land - seems
like the sun went behind the clouds at the moment of
shooting... keeplooking at the photo thinking: it could
be somewhere in Yorkshire as well... hey, but wouldn't
like to get lost at night in this area! Could be frightening!
Cheers,
Robi

hello barbara

oh... the great farm-lands of western US... love the silky smoothness you have captured in this one. however, i am not very fond of the light. the cloud shadow renders the greenery a bit grayish, at least to my eye. love the sky though.

a great note too! :)

warm regards,
kristaps

Hallo Barbara!

Lovely shot, Barbara.
Simple and extremely effective, great textures and depth of field, a wonderful blue sky, more than enough for me!
I've been in Fruita in June 2006 and I'll pass through it in a few weeks once again, on my way to Colorado National Monument before hitting the Central and Southern Rockies...
Now, I might be posting one more time before leaving to the USA on Aug.3... On the other hand : I'm in the process of wrapping up & working out all sort of crap before departure, so I don't know whether that one last post is actually going to appear... That not being the case you'll see me back in here by early September or maybe even a little before then. Also : this TE stuff needs a break once in a while. As much as I love it, it takes lots of my time and tons of energy...
So, you guys have a wonderful summer!
I'll see ya later on. A BIG HUG,

Fulvio.

Hi Barbara
Great shot of this wheat or barley field. The converging lines always make for a pleasing composition.

Hi Barbara,
I see you are flying over the our lovely western mountains.
Lovely vertical presentation of this lush farmland with a highly detaild green foreground to contrast so effectively with the beutiful big western sky. I hope you enjoyed your vist well and hope to see some Vermont images before you return.
Regards, Tom

Hello Barbara
My eyes get drawn along the lines in the field towards the trees and 'buildings' in the distance...the buildings looks strange almost like barns. The sky with clouds form a neat cap at the top. Interesting to see the FG in shade while the hill in the BG seems to be lit up by sunlight. As always your note is a fascinating read, you really write well.

I don't know why but I find the light and the sharpness a little special. Soft and sweet to be more specific ! Then, there is something special about that compo. A special soft style...
