Relaxing in Sarajevo.

In a shady courtyard in the Baščaršija area of Sarajevo - a relaxing place to spend a couple of hours.

Just returned from a couple of weeks in the Balkans. Back to basics with 1 camera, 1 lens (it wasn't supposed to be a photo trip!) - just like the old days with my FM2 and nifty-fifty...

I like this one. A wonderful shot of daily life with a lot of details and colours. The meeting of several generations here gives a beatiful impression. As I said, I like this one ...

Hello Ben,
This is a very natural scene which provides a good reflection of life in Sarajevo. The mixture of generations seem to be in harmony in this courtyard. The colours and lighting throughout are excellent. Well done.

the lady doesn't seem to be very happy compared to the grand mother in the background!

A very attractive girl with a dreamy expression in an old Ottoman-style courtyard. All the ingredients for a bit of mystery & romance. A 'busy' scene with lots of movement and detail to keep the viewer's attention. Nice one!

Anyway, hope you had a good time in Bosnia and nice to
see you back. Have you had any 'ćevaps' on Baščaršija?
The best ones in the world are being sold there! (not
to mention other delicacies)
Lookimg forward to seeing what attracted your attention
and what places you've visited. Anyway, how come you chose
Bosnia for your holidays?

The smile of the grandmother and the portrait of the thoughful young girl are very impressive.
I was there 2-3 weeks ago, and I appreciated you that I can't write "Baščaršija" without any mistake.

What strucks me here is the absent look of the young woman, with a cigarette in her hand, just as if she was escaping the life. As if the present (if the grandmother represents the past and the baby the future) of Sarajevo was symbolised by this frozen attitude. A powerful shot, Ben, with beautiful colors and good details.

Hi Ben.

I love these little moments frozen in time. It's almost not important what is 'really' going on as the viewer's mind can make up the stories...

Your choice of gear is first rate. I gave up on the M6 as it was just such a pain to change film and, although I haven't big hands, I found it just too fiddly. The D300 is big enough without being too big and a quick 'standard' lens certainly gives your shot the perspective of actually 'being there'.

I also think this would make a good B&W study...

A very beautiful young woman and a very beautiful scene between grandma and baby - there is such happiness in the older woman - something truly beautiful but such (for me) a self conscious sadness in the young woman - not sure about the OOF woman in the foreground but it is such an arresting picture for all that you have captured here.
