Clicked at the famous 'Ganga' aarti at 'Dashashwmedh Ghat'in Varanasi...

For me, this moment was quite symbolic- as if the priest was taking the divine light into his soul, to enlighten himself...

About 'Ganga' Aarti...
******************************************************
The Aarti takes place daily. It starts after sunset, with a group of priests reciting the chantings, holding lamps in their hands and offering prayers to goddess 'Ganga'. Its a not-to-be-missed attractions of Varanasi trip...

Hello, Darpan -

From having tried to take similar pictures myself (in Haridwar), I know how hard it is to get a shot like this, and this was well done. You managed to keep the flame from being overexposed while still keeping the shadow details clear. What exposure did you use? And any post-processing? This is in part a learning site, and in this kind of shot those details are especially helpful.

I would have liked to see the rest of the handle included, which would also help the overall composition - I feel that the left side is negative space, which is often useful, but in this case I don't see it adding anything other than framing. So I did a workshop to see if a vertical frame would make a difference - since the principal object is cut off on one side, it often helps to cut it off on the other side and make it a detail photo. I'm not sure it helped, but see what you think.

Again, a good job on a difficult subject.

Namaste,
Dan

Hello Darpan,
really a very beautiful shot with the light in the oil lamp to be so well photographed.Indeed a moment that every one that will visit Varanasi must be see.Well done.

Regards,Danos

Its neither the falme nor the lamp but the kapoor in the fingers which attract me the most.
Using the full 15x of your Sony DSC H-??, you have posted a beauty in twilight colours.
Beautifully composed.
Well done, Darpan.

Hello friend,

Wonderful shot and really good composition. Simple things we see in our daily life but in a compose picture with perfect light it is looking more beautiful. well managed and very well taken.
