Photographer's Note

This building, Cathedral of St Dmitry, built in 1192 on the courtyard of Great Prince Vsevolod III.
Just like many other buildings in Vladimir Princedom of the time, it's all covered by stone reliefs. Among 600 reliefs only about 150 are depicting saints and holy symbols, all others are endless supply of our knowledge about the spirit, myphology and general way of thinking of a people of Ancient Rus before the Mongol invasion.
After wars with Mongols general mood of culture changed, it become more apocalyptic and dark, together with a general darkening of medieval mood that started in XIV century in the West also, after the Great Plague and other atrocities.
