Photographer’s Note
Yes, you can actually rent this streetcar and let it take you wherever you desire!
I was walking along Karl Johansgatan (Charles John Street) yesterday and met this vintage tram between Djurgårdsgatan (Animal Garden Street) and Kommendörsgatan (Commander Street) at Majorna, in the western part of Gothenburg. The tram was coming downhill from Stigbergstorget (Path Hill Market) and it was going in direction west. I took this photo when it crossed Djurgårdsgatan and then another photo when it just passed Kommendörsgatan. You can see that in the WS. There is also an extra bonus in the WS: The light yellow house to the right is a very typical landshövdingehus "Governor's house". Please read about those on Wikipedia!
This particular vintage tram, # 208, was delivered April 10, 1928, and was in service on line # 9 between Järntorget (Iron Market) and Saltholmen (Salt Island) until September 2, 1967. That was the day before H-day, i.e. the day we went over to right hand traffic (right = höger). As you can see, it has doors on the wrong side. This tram has room for 48 seating passengers on wooden benches. After renovation it has been available for party tours since June 9, 1992.
The tram system in Gothenburg is the largest in the Nordic countries and also one of the largest in Europe. There are 80 kilometers of tracks and you can also read a lot about Gothenburg trams here. There is also a very interesting network map here.

Hi Gunnar,
Nice to see that this kind of old trams doesn't only exist in Lisbon, Budapest, or Prague. In my city, Barcelona, there's one quite similar to this, but only for a very short itinerary. Really nice! TFS.

Hejsan Gunnar!
What a great picture!
I like that slope - that looks like it was in San Francisco - great composition - I like old trams - here in Krakow we have a museum of old trams.
Good job, Anna

Hello Gunnar,
I like these old-fashioned trams very much; they have a certain romance about them. This is a very good capture with excellent colours and clarity. The relative absence of traffic is a nice bonus. Thanks for sharing.

Hej Gunnar,
Nice picture, reminding me a bit of Sarajevo, although the trams were more modern there. I can just hear the screeching noise as it goes through the curves. By the way, how do you translate Majorna into English?

Hallo Gunnar!
An overall interesting contribution. These links are really a good complement. This small street car looks so cosy - and it obviously is well kept! A somehow "nostalgic" picture - in the best sense!
Greetings from rainy Siegen!

Hej Gunnar,
thank yoг for this very lovely photo :) It inspired me to continue the story about tramways in Sweden though initially I wanted to post a different photo today :)
Very smart title to the photo, very nice well-balanced colours and very good composition!
I like these lines created by the tram (and the rails) and the building in the background: they go to different directions and they are not parallel: this creates a very dynamic image.
best regards,
Elena

Hej Gunnar,
Mycket nostalgiskt! Använde inte Långedragslinjens vagnar tågsignal i stället för ringklocka utanför den dåvarande stadsgränsen?

Hi Gunnar,
This old tram is one of many nice elements in Gothenburg. I have never tried this old one in G. but i will next time. You bet! It`s a very good composition, sharp and great colours.
Maybe the best thing is to see this beauty it in "action"
