Smooth Sailing in Chicago Photo

Photographer’s Note

Hi TE friends!
Finally I've found time to post again. This is a capture of a beautiful sail boat on Lake Michigan with the Chicago skyline in the background. It was a very wonderful late afternoon, but the light was quite difficult. Still, I think I did okay and I like the fact that there aren't a lot of colors except for the boat. On the left of the boat you can see the John Hancock Tower and on the right, more in the distance, you see the very famous Sears Tower.

Some info on the Chicago skyline (from Wikipedia):
The tallest building in Chicago is the 108-story Sears Tower, which rises 1,451 feet (442 m) in the Chicago Loop and was completed in 1974. It also stands as the tallest building in the United States, and the fifth-tallest building in the world. In addition, the Sears Tower has the most floors of any completed building in the world, and stands as the world's tallest completed skyscraper when measuring to pinnacle height, rising 1,730 feet (527 m) with the addition of its western antenna.

Linda hello,
A very attractive Chicago scene. The red boat`s contrast is great and thedetails of background is charming. The reflections on the Michigan Lake is the bonus of the photo.

Hallo Linda!
Ja , die Skyline erkenne ich von Marks Bild gleich wieder, vor allem in der linken Mitte das Hochhaus mit den zwei Antennen......immer wieder schön zu sehen !
Also die Komposition ist hier wirklich super mit dem kontrastreichen roten, gut offcentral positionierten Boot und dem gut gewählten Format.
Das Licht hier ist auch super und die Schärfe ebenso! Grüße,

You picked the right colour for the boat, that red is really boosting up the other neutral colours. And of course the scenery itself is great, that Chicago skyline looks great, also how you composed it. A well thought image, not just luck, you really thought about this one...really good work, i like it a lot.

With that shining red boat it looks like a postcard for me, and Chicago happens to be one of the best skylines I've seen in the states, I like the Mordoresque Sears tower a lot, the boat in the foreground animates the view very well and you placed it equally well in the composition.

Hi Linda,
for sure the red spot of the boat shining through the frame it truly eye-catching; but is the whole lot and your presentation which I like the most. A peaceful day spent sailing with the great background of one of the city I'd like to visit. As I said, this is a well presented and well thought shot, with good quality throughout and good colour balance. Well done!

Hi Linda,

A photograph a little in the same style as this one that I also took this summer but in Brittany… No the headlight here but Chicago under beautiful and pleasant light, I like much the atmosphere of serenity which arises from the image. It is one moment of calm very pleasant. The boat is very well highlighted, cheer, thank you Linda.

This is a great composition.
The colours and design of this boat are perfect to add a great touch of dynamism and colours to this beautiful Chicago skyline.
I was stucked in Chicago airport during a few hours last Friday and I still regret I could not leave the airport to take the Loop and have a tour in this beautiful city.
