Photographer’s Note

Another image from the Herbschtmäss currently taking place in Basel with yet another caroussel in motion that I originlly intented to take from the other side but seeing the lonely person looking at the motion spectacle I changed my position to include his silhouette in the frame.

Elle est bien réussie cette photo pleine de lumière.

Les couleurs sont électrisantes et ressortent brillament à l'heure où les gens soupent... :-P)

Bon réflexe que d'identifier le personnage et de l'inclure dans ta scène.

Every year i have plans to do this kind of work, but so far i always found a cheap excuse for not doing it. Seeing this i really have to force myself in doing this because i like this effect a lot. I know it's classic and is done many many times, but still, i don't have them en i really want to try this.
Your picture is a good reminder on that and technical speaking top notch..!!!

Absolut GENIAL!!!! Deine Chilbi-Bilder sind mit Abstand die besten, aber das sage ich jedes Jahr wieder :)))) Wie die Zeit vergeht. Toll der Schwung in der Bahn und es wird einem vom reinen Zuschauen etwas schwindlig. Voller Farbe, voller Leben, Herbstzeit in Basel. Auch eine dunkle Zeit, Farben sind herzlich willkommen. Gruss ... die Sonne scheint + aen gueaetae!!!!!! Barbara.

Hello Jean-Yves,

A nouveau des mouvements très dynamiques. Le temps de pause est à nouveau choisi judicieusement car on a l'impression que ce manège émet des flammes colorées.
C'est vraiment bien vu. L'effet est vraiment très réussi.

Un très joli boulot sur les couleurs pour donner beaucoup de charme à cette scène. Un bon contraste entre le spectateur solitaire et l'agitation suggérée par les mouvements du manège.

Fantastic colour and wonderful pattern, like an abstract. This is a great example of the magic of a long exposure, taking a familiar scene and showing it in a different way, much more interesting than normal. Well done!

J'aime beaucoup le rendu de cette photo avec cette sensation de mouvement et ses filets colorés. Il faudra que tu nous donnes le secret pour obtenir des blues-hours d'une telle luminosité!Bien vu le gus contemplatif au premier plan.

What a wonderful conglomeration of colours, lights and motion blur, all set against a blue hour sky. Good thinking to move your position as the silhouette is a great addition to the image.

A quand une photo de l'intérieur du manège... La photographie, une passion qui fait perdre la tête !!

Très bien vu d'avoir inclus la silhouette restée dans l'ombre, c'est un parfait point d'accroche et contraste bien avec la vitesse du manège.
Les lumières de l'attraction sont superbes, c'est psychédélique et va parfaitement à l'ambiance électrique des fêtes foraines.
Vraiment sympa... Mais tu n'arriveras pas à me faire aimer ça pour autant ;o)

I have not even made it out to the Herbschmass this year, but it looks like quite a dizzying experience! The light trails make an intriguing pattern, very nice to look at but I'm glad I'm not on that ride! Good inclusion of the solitary person who contrasts well with the fast moving ride.

alors pour moi, ça rend moins bien que les roues au premier abord, mais c'est beaucoup plus original car je n'ai encore pas vu ce genre de manèges pris en photo en longue pose

Hello JY - the inclusion of the still figure was a great idea, what a riot of light and color, it also looks like someone is giving thumbs up to Obama for president in the artwork at the core.

Edit: another choice for title could be "It's Electric" after a song by Metallica.

Bonjour, Jean-Yves. La pose lente a donné des effets de lumière étonnants. Les couleurs psychédéliques donnent beaucoup de dash à l'image et se détachent bien sur le ciel de l'heure bleue. L'inclusion du personnage donne l'échelle et ajoute une présence bienvenue. Tu n'es pas monté sur le manège pour prendre des photos ;o)?

This had everything a night shot could ask for. Excellent blue hour, motion and perfect stillness movement and the pinks are sublime. The one second shutter has worked really well here. The inclusion of the human element was a wise choice. Like this lots.

Amazing shot Jean Yves!!!!!!

This reminds me of my first photographic outing while still in school (age about 17). We were given the use of black and white cameras for the weekend, which were to be critiqued on Monday morning in class (not much has changed in 15yrs!).
I was meeting my friends at the local Fall Fair which featured some carnival rides such as this. I set up my tripod unknowing of what amazing results would occur. Sure enough, the slow shutter speed resulted in these great light trails.

These ones are brilliant Jean Yves....

Salut à toi la Terreur écumeur des manèges.
La géométrie dans l'espace des objets en mouvement donnent d'intéressants dessins abstraits qui se combinent avec de belles couleurs.
Aussi intéressant avec cet homme bien immobile.
Il ne te reste plus qu'à calculer le volume total de la figure en mouvement :)

Balance of light between the attractive lights of the carrousel in motion and the remain light of the sky in blue hour is exquisite indeed. this is a very amazing picture produced by the prestigious wizard of light always. you have also wisely placed the man in silhouette at most advantageous point.
