I increased the dark values, and softened some of the noisy dark parts of the photo with a brush. This has to be done for each surface extra, otherwise you will lose contours. Finally I gave the clothing of the man and the boy some highlights to better stand out of the dark environment.

That's what I did Patrice. I cropped the frame back, which allowed me to make the image the full size allowable and removed the dark distraction around the outside.

Colours and scene are nice, but I found the roadside rather distracting. So I excluded the underside from the crop.

Your picture is fine.But,i've
1.Removed the frame (For more originality)
2.Removed free space to the right.
3.Given it B/W touch for more inspiration
