Unsharp Mask

More Color, But also More Wind

My third and probably final shot from the July 4th fireworks in Marin. This one is more colorful than the main post, but if you look closely, you can see that the wind - which you can also see from the smoke pattern - shook the tripod during the exposure, despite my efforts to block it. Wind can be like that.

Gaussian Blur

After saying to Kristaps that I probably wouldn't do anything more to this picture, I decided I would anyway. (Prerogative of photographic perversity.)

I selected for the window divider and copied it into a new layer. Then I applied Gaussian Blur at radius 5, and set the opacity to 53%. (I tried a lot of blending and opacity combinations and this is the best I came up with.)

It was useful practice, so thanks, Kristaps.

Adjustment Layers, Curves, Brightness

Taking several people's advice, I created an adjustment layer for Curves, masking out all but the center trees and some of the rocks in the reflection, then raising the curve to lighten the shadow area. Then I created a second adjustment layer for Brightness/Contrast, raising both, and painting out the upper right corner.
