Alison,
I used to dodge tool to slightly lighten some dark areas on the left . I also use the variations to add a little more light.
Did you use a flash ?
I also added a frame .

There was too much green so I adjusted the levels.
I also resize the photograph to 800
finally I slightly sharped.
