Increase the contrast by 2 steps
Adjust the Saturation in all 3 channels (red and green)
decrease brightness by 1 step
increase sharpness by 2 steps
crop image to the desired size

The troops coming in for a surprise attack on the baboons. They tried to be nonchalant but, as seen here, were spotted. All hell broke loose a few seconds after this shot was taken.

selected the face and used curves to brighten, then reduced saturation on the same selection.

USM, +7, 40 pix radius, 0 treshold.

USM +80, 0.3 pix radius, 0 treshold.
Edit - fade to lighter, 100% opacity.

Played with hue/sat to punch up the colours.

Played with lightness, highlights and shadows to punch up the light. Have a look a highlight and contrast, but go for the 'advanced view' which gives you so many nice options to play with your photograph!!
